DIFFERENCES IN GERMAN, U. S. ! SCHOOL TOLD Exchange Student at I. U. Says Americans Stress Classroom Work. Time* Sprrinl BLOOMINGTON. Ind.. Dec. 20. j Differences between German and American universities were de- j scribed here today by Otto Wilhelm j Schatz, who is attending Indiana i University this year as an exchange ; student through the University of Heidelburg. The 20-year-old graduate of the Oberrealschule at Kehl and former student at the Gymnasium in Baden | believes that American institutions I stress classroom activities far more i than German universities. In German universities the em- j phasis is placed upon examinations, ■ Mr. Schatz said. He also explained that the Batchelor of Arts degree awarded for completion of a college or university course here corresponded to a diploma received by a student com- i pleting the course at the gymnasium ! or the Oberrealschule in Germany, j Mr. Schaltz is studying political j science and eventually hopes to enter the German government service. An Indiana University student is to spend next year studying in Germany under the exchange plan. Mr. Schatz also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and at the Uni- ; versity of Freiburg where he was a i member of the German student corps, exclusive dueling club.
