DIESEL TRAINS TO CLIP HOURS ON TRIP WEST Chicago-to-Denver Roads to Build Streamline Speed Units. Mil I'nth fl /’r< CHICAGO, Dec. 14—Plans for construction of new streamline trains to be used on the fastest longY taive train schedule in America were announced today by officials of me Chicago A: Northwestern and Union Pacific Railroads. The new Diesel trains are to be operated on a 16-hour daily schedule between Chicago and Denver, and are to clip nine hours from the existing record run, according to the announcement. Each of the trains is to be of 10 cars with 2400-horse power Diesel-driven units. The streamliners, to be named The City of Denver, are to leave Chicago and Denver late every afternoon and arrive the following morning. To maintain a 16-hour schedule the trains must average 6V : miles per hour for the 1048 miles between the two cities. The maximum speed is to be in excess of 100 miles per nour, officials of the road said. “The power plant of each train is to consist of two 1200-horse power Diesel engines,’’ said Carl R. Gray, pr ident of Union Pacific. “Aluminum alloy is to be the principal structural material of the cars, except that trucks and couplings are to be steel.” About nine-tenths of the coal mined in Bulgaria is produced by the state-owned colliery at Pernik.
