A sergeant of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who had trailed the pair 14 months was aided by Justice Department agents in rapturing them after an exciting chase in Ottawa. 111. The suspects are Russell Knowles and Herman KierdorfT, alias Webber. David Meissner, Cincinnati bookmaker, was convicted last January of the kidnaping and sentenced to 15 years. Dec. 12.—Mrs. Edith Liggett today pinned her hope for a solution of the slaying of her .hu-band. Walter Liggett, crusading editor, on an investigation by the Federal Department of Justice. In a wire to Attorney General Flomcr Cummings, Mrs. Liggett declared it would be impossible to obtain a fair investigation of the murder through eigther Hennepin County or Minnesota state authorities. Liggett s sensational charges of “protected" vice and gambling involved nearly all local and state officials and all were unfriendly to him. his widow pointed out.
