WARNING GIVEN DRIVERS ON ICY ROADS IN STATE State Highway Department Lists Detours Still in Effect: 3 Removed. Du? to ice-covered roads, especially in northern Indiana, motorists are urged to drive with extreme care, in this week's bulletin of the State Highway Department released today. Detours have been removed on U. S Highway 40, between Dunreith and Richmond; Road 9, between the junction of Road 67. south of Pendleton, north and east to a point three miles soutn of Junction 236. and Road 37 in Oolitic. A section of U. S 52 from the intersection of the Augusta road and Road 52 into Lena non also has been opened, but remains closed between Indianapolis and 71st-st. STATE’S AID IN DRIVE PLEDGED ! BY GOV, M'NUTT Executive Promises to Join Campaign to Cut Accident Toll. Indiana’s support of a five-year campaign to reduce traffic accidents, j sponsored by the National Safety Council, is pledged by Gov. McNutt ; in a telegram to the council headquarters in Chicago. •'Your national program is very commendable and timely,” the Governor said in his message. “Indiana. has a state-wide program and we shall be glad to co-operate with the National Safety Council.” The program, to start Jan. 1. has an objective of reducing accidents 35 per cent by the end of 1940. effecting a saving of at least 38,000 lives.
