JOB OF FILLING SEC POSTS TO FACE PRESIDENT Difficult Task Is Awaiting Roosevelt's Return to White House. BV RUTH FINNEY Tim*< Writer WASHINGTON. Dec. 6.—President Roosevelt, will b<= called upon to All two vacancies of his Securities and Exchance Commission when h p comes hark to th° White House next week, and the task won't be an easy onp. SEC is administering three laws that are integral parts of the New Deal program, and certain to figure in the campaign. Th" President already has spent three months looking for a successor to Jop Kennedy. Commissioner George C. Mathews' resignation will make the burden so heavy for th three remaining commissioners that further delay is not anticipated. One Democrat and one Republican must be chosen. According to indications the President, will name a utility man to help administer the new holding company act—probably Henry I. Harriman, former president of the United States Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Harriman’s company, the New England Power Association, is one of the few concerns to register with SEC. When the WheelerRayburn Eill was pending. Mr. Hardman approved it in principle. He is a Republican. His appointment should allay fears of his business associates, and might, be used bv New Deal campaigners to emphasize their claim that these fears are absurd. If thp President considers geographical requirements the Democratic appointee should come from the West. Two of the present members come from New England. The Far West is represented by J. D. Ross of Seattle. Warn 200 Store Owners. More than 200 store owners who have ignored two notices to pay sign reinspection fees will be served with warrants. William F. Hurd, building inspector, has announced. The fees range from $1 to $1.50.

STATE TRUSTEE STALLING, SAYS MEDICALGROUP Refusal to Sign Contract at Fort Wayne Brings Accusations. T’rrw'vt Special FORT WAYNE. Ind.. Dec. 6.—An accusation of ‘•stalling’’ was leveled today at Trustee Elmer J. Fox. who has declined to enter a contract which members of the Fort Wayne Medical Society claim would save SIO,OOO a year in caring for indigent in Wayne Township. Mr. Fox recently announced that he would not accept the offer be- ' cause it would cause a number of members to withdraw from the medical organization. He said he had received letters and telephone calls from individual physicians who declared they would quit the organization if the offer were accepted. The controversy developed after a meeting at which the medical organization adopted a recommendation of its economics committee, providing a contract under which the year's services would be furnished for S3OOO. The proposal was said to have passed without a dissenting vote. The organization held a second meeting after learning that the of-

Ifer had been rejected. It was determined to poll the entire membership by mail and ballots for this purpose are to be sent out immediately. According to an officer, the group is surprised that Mr. Fox has taken a “sudden interest in preserving the unity of the Medical Society.” Such an explanation, the official asserted, indicates that the trustee is ‘‘stalling around.”
