Illinois-st, early today, broke out of the place instead of following the usual procedure of breaking in. Henry A. Mewborn. proprietor, R R. 12. Box 164, found the empty safe shortly after 5 this morning when he opened the restaurant. He expressed an opinion to police that the burglars were locked in the place when it was closed at 1 this morning. A ventilating fan in the rear of the restaurant was removed and a ladder led up to it. In a nearby building police found a wrench, screwdriver and a pair of pliers, Detective Sergt. Arch Ball reported Mr. Mewborn said he received a warning ten days ago that he was to be robbed.
