FLORIDA COMING BACK STRONGER, JOHNSON SAYS State of Varied Resources Offers Cheap Living, Mild Climate. RY HI GH S. JOHNSON • tCopyright 1935. bv United Feature , Syndicate. Inc i ATLANTA, Nov. 22.—Florida is coming back stronger than ever. She suffered from a double action boom-and-bust. The economic whoopee in land and lots was all her own. It left as much local wreckage as • the 1929 fantasy and disaster. Before she could recover from that, the 1 world-wide business typhoon struck her. They know what depressions are down there. But getting both barrels that way was something of a blessing in disguise. The first one ; punctured a lot of false values, ' liquidated a good deal of debt, and left the state less of a load of these barnacles which are slowing recovery in other places. After this experience it is coming back, and in my opinion on a • sounder basis than any of the many places I visited on this trip. Furth- , ermore. the surface of its possibilities has hardly boon skimmed. They could easily have another boomlittle as they like that prospect. The beauty of this situation is balancp. It is a state of varied resources, from such little known but important industries as sponges and phosphate rock to the two greatest enterprises, citrus fruits and tour- , ists. Never underestimate the tourists. They form one of the greatest of our industries. This state . has a lion's share. People are apt 1o think of that , only in terms of the swank of Miami and Palm Bdach. They bring in millions, but a bigger business is of • a more homespun sort—all over the state. Living is very cheap and

COMPLETES I. U. WORK
An Indianapolis resident since he was 14. David Hing Jung (above), a native of China, has completed his Indiana University work and has received a Ph. D. in chemistry. Soon he will sail to hi.; native country to enter industry there. there is no winter. Quite apart from the “tin lizzie’’ gypsy tourists, there is a very large "sojourning” population—people from elsewhere, living well on tiny incomes. If it weren’t that we all have a depression complex which prevents our reeognfcing recovery when we see it, I would say that the depression is over in Florida right now. There is sti” "m? "nemployment. There always was. There always will be. But somehow people get along and this. I think, is the best “somehow” sta e in the Union.
