WAYNE KING BOOKED AT ROOF

Orchestra Scheduled for Dec. 7 ‘Waltz Night’ Lighting and Decorations Are to Be Installed. Wayne King, “the waltz king,’’ musical Idol of thousands of radio enthusiasts. Is to play a one-night engagement, at the Indiana Roof, Bunday, Dec. 7. One of the veterans of radio orchestra leaders, Mr. King gets hundreds of fan letters weekly. His band has played at the Aragon ballroom, in Chicago, for more than seven years, now is making a crosscountry trip of one-night stands. It broadcasts four nights a week. Special preparations for Mr. King's visit are being made by Tom Devine, Roof manager. Decorations and lighting will be suitable for a convincing “waltz night.” Tom Moore Likes to Walk Tom Moore, appearing with Warner Baxter in Robin Hood of El Dorado," never walks less than five miles a day, and frequently tramps 20 miles or more over the Santa Monica mountains. Young Fairbanks Will Make Films Douglas Fairbanks Jr. begins a new role of actor-manager with the production of “The Amateur Gentleman” in London. Criterion Film Productions, Ltd., recently was organized by Mr. Fairbanks and Marcel Heilman. “The Amateur Gentleman” is an adaptation of the novel by Jeffrey Farnol, and is to star Mr. Fairbanks and Elissa Landi. PORK CHOPS’ RETURN HAILED BY HOUSEWIVES Cold Weather and Reduced Prices Start Trek Back to Homes Here. Combination of lower prices and colder weather has returned pork chops to a popular place on Indianapolis menus, a survey of wholesale and retail outlets showed today. Commenting on yesterday’s advices from Chicago which traced the slash in pork prices from their high of 40 cents a pound in August to the present 32-cent rate, dealers said the reductions here generally have kept in line. In fact local prices are apt to stay a cent or two under the Chicago levels, according to A. W. Metzger, general manager of Kroger Grocery and Baking Cos. Choice chops passed 50 cents a pound in August, but now these cuts are selling under 35 cents a pound, one retailer said. The present average price of chops as reported from Chicago is 32 cents with cheaper cuts scaling down to 22 cents. Local butchers are asking 25 to 32 cents a pound today. The wholesale price of pork loins dropped about 5 cents in the last two weeks, according to Clarence Keehn of the provisions department at Kingan & Cos. FACES BOARD CHARGE ON SUNDAY LIQUOR Illinois-st Tavern Operator Ordered to Hearing. G. S. Giuffre, operator of a tavern at 233 N. Illinois-st, who was alleged to have sold or to have given away liquor on Sunday, has been ordered by the Alcoholic Beverages Commission to show cause Nov. 15 why his retail permit should not be revoked. Giuffre was charged in Municipal Court with Sunday sale, but Judge Charles J. Karabell dismissed the case on the ground sale was not proved and it is not unlawful to give away beer on Sunday. Arthur Krakovitz, 323 E. Wash-ington-st, charged with closing hours violation, was ordered before the commission for hearing Nov. 19. SCHAUB HONORED FOR 50 YEARS AS TRUSTEE Protestant Orphans’ Homs Official Given Dinner Last Night. Joseph H. Sale of the College Court Realty Cos. to the Guardian Realty Cos. for $132,800 cash was confirmed in Probate Court today by Judge Smiley N. Chambers. Preferred stockholders are expected to realize about 60 cents on the dollar under sale terms. MOTORIST IS SENTENCED Edward Ramey Draws 90 Days and SSO Fine. Times Special NOBLESVILLE, Ind., Nov. 7. Edward Ramey, Indianapolis, convicted of driving while intoxicated, was sentenced yesterday to 90 days at the State Penal Farm and fined SSO by Circuit Judge C. M. Gentry.
