HIGHLIGHTS OF AUTOMOTIVE WORLD FOR THE WEEK
NEW PRODUCT OF CHEVROLET SHOWS CHANGES Advances in Performance, Engineering and Styling Noted. The new Master Deluxe and Standard for 1336 introduced in Indianapolis and simultaneously throughout the country at dealer showrooms, embody marked advances in styling, engineering and 1 performance, according to E. W. Berger, Indianapolis zone manager for Chevrolet Motor Cos. The Master Deluxe, offered with either knee action or conventional springing, has been restyled in its more important appearance ele- j ments, notably by the adoption of a j higher and narrower grille of dis- i tinctively original design in combinnation with anew treatment of the hood louvres, new style headlamps mounted on the sides of the radiator shell, and new interior trim. The lower priced standard models have been completely redesigned in chassis and bodies. Last year the standards differed materially both in appearance and in construction from the masters; this year, the two lines are identical in all major features of styling, engineering and j performance, the chief difference being only a matter of wheelbase. Outstanding among the many new features of both models for 1936 are perfected hydraulic brakes; improved engines having higher compression ratio—6 to I—balanced carburetor, full-length water jacketing and other changes resulting in better cooling and improved gasoline and oil economy, and cromodine rust-prevention on fenders and running boards. Front doors of all models of both lines are now hinged at the front. The solid steel turret top, exclusive last year with the master models, has been adopted this year for the standard line also. Spoke-type pressed steel wheels, instead of wire wheels, are used on all standard ! models. Body interiors of master models show marked advances in comfort and style. An important innovation is found in the design of the front seating arrangement, of the master coach and tow'n sedan. Instead of the usual divided and hinged front seat of tw’o-door models, a single seat cushion extends the full width of the car, permitting three passengers to ride comfortably. The seat back is divided, the right side section be I ing hinged to fold forward over the seat cushion to open a passageway to the rear compartment. Prices on the two new lines range from $495 to S6OO for the standard I models and $560 to $665 for the mas- I ter models. What do you think of the new 1936 models?” Smith (Auto Editor, Washington Daily Nows): “Have you by chance seen the new Dodge? It is a really beautiful job. Dodge in the past has of course always been known for its sturdiness and dependability. But I frankly never in my experience as an automobile editor have seen such a smart, stylish, beautiful and stunning looking Dodge motor car as this year’s model. It is in effect a contribution from the state to every workingman’s Christmas stocking. "In light of the effect it will certainly exert on the general economic situation, the change is a progressive step which ought to be taken throughout the country. It is to be hoped that other states will follow Michigan’s far-sighted example.”

THEY ride with greater safety in the new Ford for 1936. It’s not so much that V-8 engine power and pick-up whisk them clear of traffic tangles although this, too, helps make the new Ford a safer as well as a more thrilling car to drive. But it’s mainly because every feature of the new Ford measures up to the standard of V-8 engine quality. The Ford Motor Company was not satisfied to put an engine from the luxury class in a car selling as low as $5lO. It insisted that everything else be in keeping with the fine-car quality beneath the hood-- safety, as well as roominess and comfort.
