EXTENSION TO PLEASANT RUN IS SANCTIONED Park Board Makes Plans for Improvement to Boulevard. The Park Board made plans to extend Pleasant Run-blvd today after It had been informed that Works Progress Administration approval had been given the project in Washington. The addition is to go from Arhng-ton-av to Shadeland-dr and northward on Shadeland-dr to Woollen’s Gardens and the Boy Scout reservation. Request bv Indianapolis Railways to operate a bus line on 52nd-st north of Butler University campus was refused until the company agrees to do maintenance work on the boulevard. New Park Named Following the suggestion of the Garfield Baptist Church, the board yesterday nam’d the new addition to the park system at Minnesota-st and Bethel-av, Bethel Park. Federal relief projects of the department are to oe marked with tablets stating the number and dates of the project. Markers also are to be placed on 13 wading pools to be constructed. Pleasant Run golf course, instead of South Grove, is to be kept open this winter. A. C- Sallee, park superintendent, is to assume the added duties of golt superintendent during the illness of Harry Schopp. OFFICER SLAIN AFTER KILLING HIS SUPERIOR New York Policeman Facing Charge of Drunkenness, Shoots C aptain. By i nih ii Pres* NEW YORK. Oct. 25.—A patrolman facing a citation for drunkenness on duty, shot and killed Police Cnpt. Richard McHale in Flushing police station last night and was himsell' killed by a fellow officer. Patrolman Walter Miller, 29, was found intoxicated on his post yesterday, and was put to bed in the station barracks. His revolver was held at the desk. Later he awoke, dressed and got his gun, w'hich he loaded. Capt McHale went toward his office Miller followed, shot him twice in the chest. He staggered into a washroom. Miller went after him, placed his gun at the captain’s back. Patrolman Edward Hayes, entering the building, killed Miller. Capt. McHale died in an ambulance. TWO BANK SUSPECTS SENTENCED AT SALEM Barnard and MeNeeley Arrested on Austin (Ind.) Tip. By I nitrd /Yes* SALEM, Ind., Oct. 25.—Two youths today were under 10 to 25year sentences in the state reformatory following their pleas of guil # y in Washington Circuit Court to auto banditry charges. Oral Barnard, 21, and Woodrow MeNeeley, 21. were sentenced by Judge W. W. Hottel yesterday. The two were taken by state police Wednesday near the Austin State Bank, after a series of robberies in Washington, Jackson and Orange Counties. State police had received a tip that MeNeeley and Barnard planned to hold up the bank. Both were hea\ily armed. ANN HARDING GIVEN CUSTODY OF DAUGHTER Long Court Baule With Bannister Settled Amicably. By In ilnl I'i isx HOLLYWOOD. Oct. 25.—Ann Harding, film actress, today had undisputed custody of her daughter, Jane, 7, after a long court battle with her divorced actor-husband, Harry Bannister. The contest in which each charged the other was no fit parent for the child came to a surprise ending. They reached an agreement out of court. VAN DEMAN CASE TO OPEN AT SHELBYVILLE Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Will Represent State. Alonzo Van Deman, 59. New Augusta, is to be tried Tuesday in the Shelby Circuit Court on a charge of slaying Thomas Coffey, 53. a neighbor, following an argument over the sale of tomatoes. The case was transferred from Marion !o Shelby County Frederick W. Steiger, deputy prosecutor, is in charge of th case, assisted bv Harold J. Barger, Shelby County prosecutor. Laurel Hardesty, 30. formerly of Indianapolis. was killed here yesterday when a bakery truck he was driving collided with another machine at a street intersection.

system. Mayor Herman Bray, upon his return from Indianapolis, announced that a PWA grant of $30,000 will be used to carry out the project. Local voters approved a program if municipal ownership in a referendum conducted last week, also recording themselves as approving the purchase of the Mt. Vernon Water Works Cos., a private concern. Engineers are expected here this week to appraise the water company's property, after which the city expects to arrange purchase even though condemnation proceedings may be needed to fix a price.
