YOUNG SLAYER SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON Tom Welshans Displays No Emotion as Judge Pronounces Penalty. Thomas Welshans, 22-y?ar-old taxi driver, convicted of slaying his i swectehart, today formally was sen- j tenced by Criminal Court Judge ] Frank P. Baker to life imprisonment in Indiana State Prison. Welshans was convicted by a jury Monday for the slaying June 3 of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hamberg in her home near Speedway City. Aside from folding and unfolding j his arms while sentence was pro- ! nounced. the youthful slayer showed ! no emotion. He must serve a mini- | mum of 20 years before being eligi- i ble for parole.
