$4,250,000 IS ASKED IN SUIT ON FILE HERE Violation of Anti-Trust Act Charged to Indiana Corporation. Charging violation of thr Sherman anti-trust act, a suit to recover damages andettating $4 250 000 today is on file in Federal Court here. Plaintiff is Loft, Inc.. New Yoik candy manufacturing concern. Defendants are member firm'' of the Corn Industries Research Foundation. Inc , an Inidanu corporation. The foundation is said t.o have a monopoly on all glucose made in the United States and by reason of a “reporting plan” adopted in 1926. has been able to fix and maintain “exorbitant'' prices for the product, the complaint alleges. The suit seeks $250,000 damages for alleged excessive prices paid for glucose between December 1925 and August, 1924; damages of $2 000.000 because the plaintiff according to the complaint has been kept from advertising the use of anew process to supersede the use of glucose, and damages of $2,000,000 for alleged depreciation in value of the plaintiffs new process, “from the loss of marketing facilities including advertising facilities.” Developed Secret Process In August. 1934, thr plaintiff developed a secret process using cane sugar instead of glucose, the complaint states. The firm attempted to advertise this process in large Eastern newspapers but charge that the defendant, corporation prevailed on the newspapers not to accept the advertising. Offices of the CArn Industries Research Foundation are in New York City. The Union Starch and Refining Cos. and the Union Sales Cos., of Columbus, are the only member concerns located in Indiana. GOVERNMENT TO MAKE 30,000-ACRE FOREST Martin County Sub-Marginal Land to Be Used in Unit. Purchase of 30,900 acres of sub- j marignnl land in Martin County to be made into a Federal forest by the Land Utilization Division of the Resettlement Administration has been announced here. A total of $249,000 already has been allocated for purchase of the j land. The land is to be acquired j from owners, tenants being moved to more desirable locations as rapid- j ly a.s possible. Nearly 200 families ! are located in the area. At the conclusion rs the project, j t he tract is to be turned over to the j Si.ate Conservation Department for I further development.
