DOUBLE MOVIE FEATURE CURRENT ATTRACTION AT LOEW'S

Cooper and Beery United in New Film Picture to Share Honors With “Girl Friend” at Palace. Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper are united again :n “O’Shaughnessy’s Boy,” which, along with Ann Sothcrn, Jack Haley and Roger Pryor in “The Girl Friend,” is to make up a double film bill at Loew's Theater starting tomorrow. The Beery-Cpoper picture is described as a dramatic, human story of father love against a background of circus life. Beery is cast as Windy, happy-go-lucky, swaggering circus animal trainer who faces a ferocious tiger and a frantic elephant for the love of his son Stubby. Os course, Jackie is Stubby. Complete Cirrus Csed in Film A complete circus was erected on the movie lot where the picture was filmed. In the show are a circus parade and many shots of the thrills of circus life. The tiger-elephant act, around which the action revolves, was said by many circus men to be impossible. In it. Beery places a tiger on an elephant s back and puts them through a ring of fire. The act required ten weeks of training and preparation by Louis Roth, circus animal trainer. Because Jackie is growing up and can not play baby roles, Spanky McFarland plays Jackie as a cnild. Leone Maricle. Broadway stage actress. makes her motion picture debut in the role of Cora. Windy's neurotic wife. Others in the Cast Sarah Haden is seen as Martha, Cora’s spiteful sister. Henry

Robert I)ona and Madeleine Carroll Romance may be rough, scrappy and dangerous instead of romantic but It is the rough and scrappy kind that Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll have in ‘ The 39 Steps," which opens an engagement tomorrow at the Circle Theater.

Stephenson, Granville Bates, Willard Robertson and Clarence Muse are in the cast. In “The Girl Friend,” Miss Solhern, Haley and Pryor impersonate three penniless Broadwayites who become involved in rural theatrical's by impersonating a famous impressario and his assistants. A stampede of farmyard animals breaks up their premiere in a converted barn. Then the trouble and fun start. Music and lyrics for the pictures were prepared by Gus Kahn and Arthur Johnston.

Oakie Thinks Work Difficult Knowing When to Stop Is Important, He Says. By Times Special HOLLYWOOD. Oct. 17,—1t isn't often that Jack Oakie can keep still long enough while making a picture to talk, but he took time while making ‘'Collegiate” on the Paramount lot to tell his ideas about comedy. “The hardest job a comedian has in pictures,” he said, "is to know when to stop. That’s why I go to rushes every day. A comedian has j only so many tricks. He can’t overdo them. He’s got to spread them around and use them at intervals. "He sr.ouldn’t have to worry about story and dialogue. Situations and lines are funny in themselves. It’s his tricks that should interest him. By watching the rushes I know just what I’ve done and how it looks. If I see I’m using something too much, I stop using it for the rest of the picture. Humor Must Be Natural ‘‘Then there are times when no attempt to be lunny should be made. There’s nothing more boring than somebody deliberately trying | to get a laugh. Humor has to be natural and spontaneous. "For instance, the old gag on the ■ stage of tripping over your own foot is funny, but it isn’t funny on the screen. It’s forced humor in a situation that is already funny. Therefore the audience doesn’t like it and the gag dies.” Oakie is confident that his present assignment is the toughest he ever has had. He’s working with Joe Penner, Ned Sparks and Lynne Overman, a trio of funmakers who know how to get laughs, and he is supposed to be not only funny but romantic.

'Seven Keys' Being Produced by RKO By Times Spcciul HOLLYWOOD. Oct. 17.—Trying to write a novel in 24 hours is difficult enough, but when a series of crooks interrupt the task, it is impossible, as Gene Raymond discovers in “Seven Keys to Baldpate,” which is now in production at RKO. Margaret Callahan and Erin O'Brien-Moore head the supporting cast of the mystery farce.

HIT THAT COLD WHERE IT LIVES—in the System! Don’t fool yourself about a cold! It’s nothing’ to be taken lightly nor treated lightly. A cold is an internal infection that will quickly spread within the system unless promptly checked. A wise thing to take for a cold is Grove’s Laxative Bromo Quinine. First of all, it is distinctly a cold treatment and not a “cureall.” Secondly, it is an internal treatment. Thirdly, it does four important things. It opens the bowels, combats the infection in the system, relieves the headache and fever and tones and fortifies the system. That’s the treatment a cold requires. Don’t be satisfied with anything less. All druggists sell Grove's Laxative Bromo Quinine. Ask for it by the full name and reject a substitute. —Advertisement.
