A Woman s Viewpoint BY MRS. WALTER FERGUSON
••T IFE has defeated me,” writes JU a woman who has just buried her youngest child, cone through a long and painful illness, and watched i.fr aging husband lose his modest fortune. From the tone of her letter, however, I know she is the kind of being who can never be defeated. P'or life can not defeat the brave, and the bra-e are those who realize that pain is a part of living. all material blessings. For the rest of us there is always hope. We are the Don Quixotes of the earth, eternally buckling on our armor for the fray, eternally falling, yet rising again with the only Kind of courage that means anything to men. Those who cry out and see disaster in each social change are the rich and fortunate. Yet everything is relative. One doesn't appreciate health unless one have known giave illness. One doesn't understand happiness until one has endured sorrow, and only those who have been hungry know what it is to be well fed. Suffering is a kind of growth, if we can regard it as a part of our earthly experience. And the manner in which we endure is the measure of our courage. The wise will accept the bitterness with the joy. Those who refuse to live deeply because they are afraid to suffer are dull creatures, not quite dead and not quite alive. TARZAN AND THE LION MAN
Now Tarzan and Rhonda knew the horrible truth. They were to be eaten by the half-gorilla monster in an effort to restore his youth and human form! With a bestial chuckle the creature backed through the doorway and closed the door. “It's the end,’’ said Rhonda.

'■We are still alive,” Tarzan laughed, ‘-arid that is nine-tenths of safety.” As Rhonda marveled at his cheerfulness, he became suddenly tense, alert. “Do you feel that draft?" he asked. The girl was quick to grasp his meaning. “I see no opening,” she replied.

“Neither do I,” he whispered, “but there must be some place we can not see. And the only place we can not see plainly is among the shadows on the ceiling in that far corner.” The apeman walked to the corner as he indicated and looked up into the darkness.

“See anything?” Rhonda asked, her voice barely audible. “I think I see something,” Tarzan replied; “there's a little patch that seems darker than the rest, as though it had depth.” Then, from above them, but at a distance, sounded a hollow chuckle, weird, uncanny!
