Sauer is well rated as a light heavy. The opening tussle will return Doug Marcell to the Tomlinson arena to meet an opponent to be named.
Pin Gossip
BY BERNARD HARMON But four leagues were in action on local bowlings alleys last night, out from two of these loops came some of the best scoring exhibitions of the fast waning 1934-35 season. In the Washington loop, rolling its final season’s series, Berghoff Beers threatened the season team record when they turned in a 3244, while during the Fountain Square Recreation session, Paul Stemm pouted his third 700 count of the present campaign. And Bert Bruder of the Fountain loop, in taking the citywide runnerup honors collected his season's best total, a 682. With every member over the 600 mark, the Berghoff aggregation welded games of 1058, 1114 and 1072 to reach its huge total, which was but four pins short of the season’s best series, rolled recently by the Cook's Goldblume. Leo Ahearn paced the beer quintet with a 680 series on 227, 236 and 217; Clayton Riggsbee, pinch hitting for Lou Daugherty, assembled a 656; Dan Hanna connected for 637, Walt Heckman posted a 636 and Dan Abbott “dogged” the quintet with a 635. With this tremendous outburst of striking the team easily triumphed over the opposing Schmitt Insurance team in all three games of their series. A 591 by George Ley was the loscis’ best series. The Wooden Shoe Beers, striving to wind up the season in fourth position, struck a snag in the Ma-, rott Shoe team, which broke into a striking orgy for a 3044 total, and a two-game win. The Shoemen, with Bob Kelly and Charlie Mahoney at 623, Lorenz Wiesman at 622 and Harry Wheeler collecting 618 posted games of 999, 976 and 1069, dropipng the middle tilt when the Beer boys slapped out a 1065. Chauck Markey paced the losers with a 643. The Leonard Coals retained their fourth place position, when they posted a 1038 in their middle gar.* for their only win. Russ Miller provided the punch that halted the Wooden Shoe drive, when he totaled 604 in his three games. For the winning Cokes, Russ Buley, despite a 134 centerpiece, led the scoring with 570. With Bill Bowenu’s 652 and Rudy Boesnecker's 615, the Underwqod Transfers made a clean sweep of their series over the Hoosier Opticals, who had as their leading scorer, Herman Bohne, with 580. The winners had a 1008 middle game. No honor totals appeared in the Capitol Ice-Quaker Oil series, won by the former, 2 to 1. Larry Rudbeck with 587 featured for the win-* ners. while Chown’s 575 was best for the losers. The Indianapolis Paint & Color Cos. rolled wihtout opposition. Blue Devil Thinlies Take 3-Way Meet Shortridge High School trackmen amassed 57 1-5 points to win a triangular meet with Greenfield and Plainfield yesterday afternoon at the Blue Devils’ oval. The victory marked the fourth triumph of the season for the Blue Devils, who lost only to Tech in the city meet. Greenfield finished second with 441-5 points and Plainfield was third with 13 1-3. Jack Brown and Jim Simmons of Shortridge were outstanding performers of the meet. Brown won the high jump at 5 feet 4 inches, took the broad jump with a leap of 19 feet 5 inches and placed third in the shotput, which was won by Weber of Plainfield, who bettered the Shortridge field record with a heave of 46 feet. Simmons won the 100 and 440-yard dashes for the Blue Devils. Other winners: Pope (Gl 220-yard dash; Adler (St high and low hurdles: Fraser 'S' half-mile run; Thompson iGI mile run; Inman ISI and Ritchv 'GI tied in pole vault: Shortridge mile relay; Greenfield, half-mile relay. Ross Out to Reyain Lightweight Crown By United Brest NEW YORK, May 4.—Whether Barney Ross loses to Jimmy McLarnin May 28 or beats the” Vancouver Irishman for the world welter title will have no bearing on his immediate pugilistic future, for he is determined to try for his relinquished lightweight crown. Seeing Ahead By Looking Backward Look over the reasons commonly set down why men get ahead in this world, and you’ll come across “foresight” before you get very far down the list. What is foresight? Fix these two pictures in your mind and you’ll have just one of the many impelling reasons why real estate is the soundest of all investments.
Now is an unusually favorable time for investment in real estate. Values have reached low tide and are beginning to flow upward. Building shows signs of reawakening after five or six years of stagnation. Desirable rental properties are scarce. There are signs of inflation on the horizon that will accelerate the rate of value increase.
