Those mussing were David Levison, famous attorney for the International Labor Defense Council and chief counsel for several men charged with murder in connection with the recent eviction riot here, and Robert Minor, militant New York Communist. No other witnesses of the affair could be found, and neither Kelsey Presley, Gallup police chief, nor D. W. Roberts, sheriff, had been notified officially of the case. Chief Presley openly expressed his doubt that the men actually had been abducted. He said that he had
been on the streets near the scene of the alleged kidnaping and had seen nothing amiss. Sheriff Roberts could not be reached. It was reported that he had accompanied two members of the state highway police patrol, who have been stationed in Gallup since the bloody riot in v.hich Sheriff M. R. Carmichael and three unemployed men were killed, in an investigation of the case. A bank in Fox Crove, 111., has a peephole in its front door and no stranger is allowed to enter until he is identified.
