CO-OPERATION OF CITIZENS IS ASKED BY KERN Closer Relations With City Officials Urged in Kiwanis Talk. A plea for closer co-operation between citizens of Indianapolis and the municipal officials was made by Mayot John W. Kern at a luncheon of the Kiwanis Club yesterday. Mayor Kern declared that the problems of city government were constantly growing more complex because of the increasing technicalities of modern life and because of the nece'-sarily closer co-ordination of the city with the state and national g>.ernments. In order to handle these problems successfully, the mayor said, it is necessary for the head of a municipal government to surround hlmself with expert advisers trained in their respective fields. “We must do this,’’ Mayor Kern declared, "berause in most cases, due to our American political system. a man elertrd to an important executive position is, like myself, an amateur. I feel that I have done this in the appointment of my own official famiiy.’’ Members of the mayoral cabinet present at the luncheon meeting were Walter C. Boetcher, city controller; Henry B Steeg, city engineer, and Theodore H, Dammeyer. Safety Board president. Mayor Kern was Introduced by Atty. Gen. Philip Lutz Jr., program chairman. Arrangements for the club’s May Day party and for the Kiwanis International convention to be held at San Antonio. Tex, next month, were outlined at the meeting.
