BY WALTER D. HICKMAN INSPECTOR Pointor of New Scotland Yard, the detective of fiction who has solved many crimes and mysteries in the novels of A. Fielding, solves the mystery of the death of three people in “The PaperChase Mystery.” This is the latest thriller to come from the busy typewriter of Mr. Fielding by H. C. Kinsey & Cos., Inc. In all of Mr. Fielding’s novels, Inspector Pointor is pictured as a man, not a super-man. He makes mistakes and at times he goes off on the wrong track, but he has never failed in landing his man. The author has marked ability in giving his novels accurate backgrounds and his latest is no exception to the rule. He is a good showman and knows how to create suspense. The reader “is present” when Fay Starr pulls a revolver upon Hugh Winslow, a London stockbroker, in his apartment. Many chapters ensue before Inspector Pointor takes the reader to Winslow’s rooms to find the body of Miss Starr. Winslow is missing and after going on several false clews, Pointor, by discovering a pair of scissors in the room of the oom of the murder, was able to get upon the right clew and arrest the murderer as he was attempting his fourth killing. Winslow discovered, while on a winter vacation in the Austrian Tyrol, that someone in the holiday party was passing cleverly forged notes on the Bank of England. This discovery paved the way for three murders and a futile attempt upon the life of the girl who supplies the love interest of the story. Here is exciting and enjoyable reading. The story is well written and the characters are real lifesized characters.
