A Woman’s Viewpoint BY MRS. WALTER FERGUSON

"lITOMEN are slaves of fashion," W thundered a ministerial Jove in his pulpit the other Sunday. As I listened my mind hurried back into the past. Visions of old fashion plates rose up before me. I recalled the sleeves which this season would be as tight-fitting as one’s skin, and the next would swell to balloon proportions; the skirts which had swept the ground and j then had crept upward past ankle, past calf, past knee, only to fall again with the crashing suddenness of a 1929 stock market. Yes. we do change our costumes with a frequency which disconcerts j the more conservative sex. We do not know this year what we shall be wearing next. Yet. dunng the process of putting on and taking off, we have managed to get rid of a lot of foolishness. Tight collars, for instance, and layers of petticoats, hour-glass waists and mountains of hair. Our variableness has resulted in better standards of health. And a group that changes its styles so often as we do can hardly be slaves in any actual sense of the word, since a slave is a person who dwells in changeless monotony. Isn't it rather the men who are slaves to style? Neither pastor nor priest has altered his raiment in generations. Although the young Don Juans have added a few gathers across the backs of their coats this season, the rank and file of men wear the same old bunglesome clothes. They swelter in summer in shirts, coats, high collars and long 6leeves, and they die in winter of pneumonia because their bodies can’t breathe under their layers of cotton and wool. Certainly the uniformity and drabness of their raiment must have an effect on the masculine

Rhonda soon learned that the six spouses of Henry the Eighth bore the historic names of the wives of that much-married monarch —Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Katherine Parr. They sneered at Rhonda.

So for long hours Rhonda sat alone, her mini awhlrl with wonder about the origin of these incredible creatures that spoke English, and about the thing they called "The Maker." And every moment she expected the approach of the gorilla king to claim her as his newest wife!
