MANY times I have made brave attempt* to take a part In the Parent-Teacher Association — that vast organization which unites two group* m behalf of the child. Ortatnly of late years Its work in feeding, clothing and keeping poor children in school has been outstanding. and ceserves enthusiastic praise. Yet. I confess I am always bored to death at local meetings. How the teachers stand them, year in and year out, is beyond me. For. in mv state at least. ttv;y are expected—which means compelled—to attend. Most parents either do not Join or else slide gracefully out of responsibility when they do, which leaves only a handful of the faithful and the teachers doggedly doing their duty. The P -T A is troubled by an inhib.tion natural to many feminine organizations—fear of tackling real problems. Necessarily it is bothered with politics more than most, although the members usually deny It. There are. and I believe there should be, factions which fight for Or against certain school board members, allying themse’ves with certain groups of teacheis. So the years in a kind c 4 furtive warfare. while the meetings continue with dreary monotony to avoid real Issues. Tiie truth is, women are scared to death of what they call "destructive criticism." If one believes a condition is harmful and merits change, why not set about to change it? It r.ms to me there can be no such thing as con.-tructive criticism, which Is merely a pale term signifying hypocrisy, and by which we manage to keep politely agitated. Tiie reason the p.-T. A. doesn’t function as it might goes right back

As in a dream, Rhonda heard one of the gorillas caution his companion that she must be taken "unharmed to The Maker.” "What does he want of her?” demanded her captor. "He is a wise man, but he is so old. . . .” "He will give her to Henry the Eighth,” the other said.
