A Womans Viewpoint BY MKS. WALTER FERGUSON
OF the qualities which go into' the making of the ideal woman. adaptability is one nf the most important. In a world where no fortune is permanent and no individual secure, the ability to adjust ©nr elf to new surroundings is almost a necessity. To be at home anywhere is a gift of the god s For it gives an assurance of reasonable contentment that too few of us can now boast. Lark of adaptability wrecks many a marriage. For example, the girl who is not willing to go with her husband into a strange community, who cries to be back home with old friends, lacks one of the qualiflcat ons for successful marriage. She cant make new friends. She doesn't try. She can't take up new occupations. In short, she’s a failure as well as a hindrance as a partner. Then there is the girl, reared in comfort, who finds her father suddenly bankrupt or di. overs she has fallen 1n love with a poor man. How shall she me t the situation? Will ahe grapple heroically with her problems, or will she whine, pity herself and assume the martyr attitude? The answer depends on her character. Or. what is rarer nowadays, suppose a poor girl marries a rich man. Sometimes it is more difficult to live up to great fortune than to endure poverty. It takes a really fine person to wear sudden wealth with grace. Have you never gone into some grand house and been struck with the insignificance of its

inmates? They often seem bewildered and lost in their magnificent surroundings. They do not fit. Sometimes, again, the sudden change ir. fortunes may dep within them a disgusting arrrgance which stamps them as parvenus. Your true lady is always able to adapt herself. She is equally at home with those above or below her in social station, mainly because before one can be a lady one has to be a complete woman —with a full awareness of life's gusto, fickleness. richness and humor.

‘Be quiet," it said, “or I’ll wring your neck." The girl, shocked by the incredible fact that these beasts spoke English, was silent. “You had better not,” th other cautioned. “The Maker will be angry if you do not bring her to him unharmed. He has been hoping for such a she as this one."
