WORK-RELIEF BILL IS READY FOR PASSAGE House - Senate Committee Puts Act in Shape for Approval. By I'nitrd Prr* WASHINGTON. March 29—The $4.800 000.000 work-relief bill, battle scarred, but still intact, was readytoday for final congressional action. Only the formalities of House and Senate approval of the conference report remained before the bill could be presented to President Roosevelt for the signature which will make it law. The House may act today, but it appeared probable the Senate, anxious to clean up other matters, would permit it to go over until Monday. The conference report last night satisfied all warring elements and left little ground for any fresh assaults upon the bill. Elimination of the Thomas inflation amendment was not unexpected. Senator Elmer Thomas <D.. Okla.L said he plans to revive the silver issue in a separate measure. Other amendments attached by the senate and retained included a rider by Senator Walter F. George iD„ Ga ), permitting the President to use part of the fund for AAA. An amendment by Senator Pat McCarran <D.. Nev.), requiring Senate confirmation of relief fund administrators. was modified, but re- ' tained. The wage amendment which caused such a battle in the Senate was altered somewhat, but not to any marked degree. In general, the conference left the bill in a form acceptable to the Administration. The Senate has an agreement to
