Ferry I? 13 tdith F smith EM Okie J Smith Sr ion Renton Todd Ah I Averaged Shares In 1930 only 3 494 shares of Citizens Gas Cos. preferred stock were held by 459 Indiana residents. ! *n average holding of 7 1 - shares. Meanwhile. 13 other interests outside the state owned the remaining 6506 Shares outstanding to give them an average block of 500 shares each. In the next year, however, the distribution of the ownership of Citizens Gas preferred shares underwent a drastic revision The standing at the end of the year revealed that 9.734 shares were owned by 436 Indiana residents, or an average of 22 1-3 shares each The balance of 946 shares was held outside the state by 18 holders, or an average of 13 2-3 shares. The fact that the number of shares held in Indiana almost trebled during the year at the same time that the total number of Hoosier st< wkholders declined by 23 is significant. Shift Is Repeated This sudden shift m the ownership of the preferred shares during 1930-1931 was virtually duplicated in 1927-1928. In 1927 there were 9084 shares held by 975 Hoosiers. an average oi 9 1-3 shares. The balance of 916 shares was in the names of 71 outsiders, or an average of 13 shares. In 1928 stock in the names of 476 Indiana residents was 9793 shares, or an average of 20 ! 2 shares. The balance of 207 shares was ow ned by 12 outsiders, an average of 17 shares. Thus, it is shown that the number of holders here declined by 499 during the tear while the number of shares rose by more than 700. In 1930. of the 80 000 outstanding comn.'n shares of the Citizens' Gas Cos . 76 506 were held by 1116 Hoosiers. or an average holding of 68’_ - shares each. The remaining 3494 shares were held by 270 non-resi-dents of Indiana, or an average of 12 > shares. Holdings I>e< line* The following year Hoosier holdings of the stock declined by 29 885 shares, reflecting the acquisition of the large blo> k by Dow Ar Cos. Asa result only 46 620 slums were in the names of 1012 Inr.iana residents, an average of 46 -hares each. Putting it in another form. 104 Hoosiers sold 287 shares each during the year to outside interests. The balance of 33.379 shares of the common was owned by 169 outl aiders, or an average of 197 shares \each. Dow A Cos. was the owner V 30985 shares of this amount, so that the average holding of the o'her 168 non-Indiana residents was 14 * 4 shares. Shares Have Fluctuated At the close of 1933. the last official tabulation on ownership of the stock which is available, reveals that 46 623 shares of the common stock and 9765 shares of the preferred are held in Indiana. This, however, does not necessarily imply that all of these shares are actually owned by Indiana residents. It could be possible for local brokerage firms to hold blocks of the stock in their names, although the shares might rightfully belong to one of their clients. Distribution of the ownership of the Indianapolis Gas Cos. common stock has not been marked by the same tendencies as that which affected the Citizens Gas Cos. The number of shares held in Indiana has fluctuated between 34.912 and 38 327 shares. At present Hoosiers own 35 468 shares Next—The Cost to the City.
