8-Year-Old Film Star Here for Premiere of Her Movie; and Here's Another Beery Contest Picture BV WALTER f>. HICKMAN
This one should be easy for Wallace Beery fans. Again we have Wallace with his young pal Jackie Cooper in a picture that was seen in 1931.
With today's photograph The Times-Loew's Palace Identification Contest is in the home stretch. This is the third of a series of four contests which will bring to the winner a cash award of sls, $lO for the next best reply and guest tickets to see Wallace Beery in “West Point of the Air” to the next 15. The Times is presenting this novel event in honor of anew triumph for the great character actor Wallace Beery—his role in "West Point of the Air,” opening today at Loews. Beery is a good subject for this interesting memory test. All of his past successes have left a definite mark on the minds of film fans and the interest shown in The Times contest bears out the fact that there'-, a real thrill in trying to recall the Beery characterizations from the potographs. In “West Point of the Air,” Berry plays the part of a hard-boiled instructor at famed Randolph Field. Romance is paramount in the film with Maureen O'Sullivan and Robert Young as the young lovers. James Gleason handles the comedy sequences. n n a A SWEET little 8-year-old girl. wearing pigtails, was ready today for one of the most important events of her life. Yesterday, Virginia Weidler, who may become as famous on the screen as Shirley Temple, celebrated her eighth birthday. Virginia, with her mother, her brother George, 9. and her school teacher, came to Indianapolis yesterday for the world premiere of

her when she arrived at the Union Station on her trip from the Pacific Coast, Virginia remained a shy. quiet and retiring girl who stayed close to her mother and brother. There was a 10-piece band, Lieut. Eugene Shine and a special traffic detail, employes and former employes of the Circle and many boys and girls to welcome the little star. Entry blank and rules appear on Page Six. ana -it THEN the parade started, Virginia climbed up on the lap of her mother and began looking a the buildings. Occasionally she smiled at little girls along the line of march. Virginia admitted that she was sorry she hadn't brought some of her dolls along with her. Her brother George, asked whether he was going to be a movie actor, said, “Oh. boy. I say so.” His mother added that he had already been in the movies and that Virginia had been on the screen since she was 3. When she entered the Lincoln. Virginia found a large birthday cake with eight candles on a table in the lobby. Smiling, she posed for pictures. tt a a SHORTLY before Virginia arrived at the station. S. Barret Mej!>]!
