SCIENCE CHURCH HISTORY TRACED BY LECTURER Progress Is Outlined Before Group at Tabernacle by Board Member. The progress of Christian Science •nd the history of its founding were traced here last night in a lecture by A. Hervey Bathurst, C. S. B , of London, a member of the lectureship board of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Boston. Speaking in Cadle Tabernacle, Mr Bathhurst said in part: “It is inspiring to see how many people today are turning to Christian Science, for they are beginning to see that the carnal, or so-called mortal mind, is not reliable—is not satisfying. On the other hand, one hears on all sides expressions cf gratitude for the fact that Christian Science is meeting the need of men and women in connection with health, business and an unlimited variety of problems.
Founder and Discovered “Christian Science is simple, and there is no better way of indicating its simplicity than by reminding you of how it was discovered. "Mary Baker Eddy, that noble spiritually-minded New England woman. is the discoverer and founder of Christian Science and the author of 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,' this hook and the Bible constituting our two textbooks. ' The discovery of Christian Science occurred in this manner. Mrs. Eddy was suffering from a senous accident, from which the physicians belicvrd she would not recover. Mrs. Eddy had. however. alwa<- been a devoted student of the Bible, and so one day during this illness she turned to her Bible, as she was accustomed to do. and read in the ninth chapter of Mathew’s Gospel that beautiful account of the healing of the man sick of the palsy. 'Arise. Take l'p Thy Bed' “Let us visualize that scene. The man suffering from the palsy was earned m and laid at the Master s feet. You recall how the Master said to him with what must have been such compassion, such love, and at the same time such authority and power, ‘Arise, take up thv bed. and go unto thine house.’ I should like to point out that that man did not hesitate or doubt. “He did not say to the Master that he had been suffering a long time and couldn't possibly think of

Rezoning of City to Be Studied by Commission Action Made Necessary by New State Law Requiring Master System for Municipalities. Members of the City Plan Commission will hold a series of special meetings in the near future to take up the problem of rezoning the city. This was decided at the commission meeting yesterday in order to comply with an act passed by the last General Assembly requiring a master planning system for cities.
This action is said to be necessary since there has been no rezoning of the city for more than 10 years. Acting in their other capacity as the Board of Zoning Appeals, the commission members voted. 7 to 3. walking without first being healed. No! He surely demonstrated that receptivity already referred to. and obeyed promptly, with the results we know so well.” Mr. Bathurst went on to tell how this healing applied to all and to trace the development of Christian Science.

March 19.—Police today tried to piece together circumstances which led David Penn, 28-year-old singer in Goiy Lombardo’s orchestra, to attempt suicide to prove the “sincerity of his love for Eileen Percy, actress and writer. Penn, whose real name police believe is David Neswonger, was in a critical condition in a hospital with a wound in his chest, inflicted by a bullet from a borrowed pistol. Miss Percy said she “only knew him slightly" and that the shooting was “an unnecessarily tragic mistake.” Dietetics Group to Meet Dr. B. W. PRICE MACHINE NEEDS TUNING, SAYS WARREN Gold Policy Author, Companion Publish Statement of Their Researches. By Scrippt-Hnieard Xetcepaper Alliance WASHINGTON, March 19.—Our economic machine needs much more adjustment before the ''balance'’ that means prosperity is attained, according to the authors of President Roosevelt's gold policy. George F. Warren and Frank A. Pearson, Cornell University economists, today published an expanded and up-to-date statement of their researches and conclusions in a 475-page volume. ' Gold and Prices” (John Wiley <fc Sons, New York). Professors Warren and Pearson insist here again as they did in 1933 that our commodity prices are inflexiblly tied to gold supplies and gold prices, and that a monetary change was necessary to start recovery. In the process of recovery, while basic prices have responded to the change in gold prices, “debts, taxes, freight rates, telephone charges, wages, prices of manufactured goods, costs of distribution, and any prices that are under monopolistic control change very slowly.” Nearer to a Balance But “since the United States left the gold standard, the prices that fell most have, in general, risen most, so that the price structure is more nearly in balance, and a vast number of individuals, business concerns and banks have become solvent by the increases in value of their properties.” In commenting on the disastrous effects of deflation, it is noted that organized labor's wage rates are a major barrier to complete deflation. The political effects of failing to adjust money in a depression are also discussed. Following attempts to maintain prices, consumption falls off, the government takes over debts and unemployed. “Since society as a whole does not know what to do, it is sometimes proposed that some individual seize pow?r, assuming that he would thereby become all-wise. The people turn to someone who promises everything and accept him on faith. A political faith becomes a religion to be accepted without question. When there is no knowledge the people perish, but dictators flourish.” Cite "Foolish Efforts” After a long attempt to bring the universe to Mohammed, “it was deemed better to transport Mohammed. and a monetary change was made.” “It will be a long time before the results of the foolish efforts will be overcome.” the authors say. “To reduce bounties, quotas, doles, tariffs, trade restrictions, and production and price control measures is a slow process. Gradually to build up a normal flow of goods and capital will take time. To train young men who miss their apprenticeship training is difficult. “Perhaps most difficult of all is to restore a more rational point of view. Os course, some beneficial results come from such an upheaval, because everything is challenged and some long-needed changes made.”

Just a few of the thousands of actual reports that are flooding in trom all over the country telling us how this newer form of NATURAL lODINE is building firm flesh, strengthening the nerves, enriching the blood —nourishing vital glands and making weak, pale, careworn, underweight men and women look and feel years younger. Scientists have recently discovered that the blood, liver and vital glands of the body contain definite quantities of iodine which heretofore has been difficult to obtain. Modern foodstuffs, even fresh vegetables and similarly so-called "good” foods have been found to be often lacking not only in food iodine but in all the other essential ergame minerals without which strength and health are impossible. Supplies Newer Form Natural lodine Kelpamalt. only recently discovered, contains practically everv mineral essentia! to norm-, well-being. But most important of all, it is the riches- knosvn source of the newer form of NATURAL lODlNE—(natural iodine, not made from iodides or other chemicals, which oftentimes prove toxic, but the same iodine that is present in small quant.ties m spinach and lettuce). Ic is the lack cf this iodine which experts in nutrition say is our foremost national health problem. Kelpamalt is a sea mineral concentrate taken iron the Pacific Ocean and made available in palatable, pleasant-to take tablet form. Six Kelpamalt tablets provide more NATURAL lODINE than -tB6 pounds of spinach, 1.600 pounds of beef, l.sg; pounds of lettuce. Three Kelpamalt tablets contain more iron and copper than a pound of spinach. ~'-j pounds of fresh tomatoes—more calcium than 6 eggs, more phosphorus than a pound and a half of carrots sulphur, sodium, potassium and other essential minerals. EUROPEAN WAR IS INEVITABLE, EXPERTS AGREE But Conflict Won't Come for Five Years. United Press Man Believes. BY WEBB MILLER United Press European News Manager (Copyright, 1955, by United Press i LONDON, March 19.—Europe is preparing for war. Those are sad words to write, less than 20 years after the greatest catastrophe of history. Yet it is true. The blinds have been lifted and there can be no further pretense. Adolf Hitler, whatever his following among his countrymen and his reputation abroad, at least has the distinction of bringing the issue into the open. The hope among the advocates of peace now is that the showdown will bring general recognition of the futility of war and lead to peace. All nations are rearming, and have either admitted or boasted of it. The allied powers, under the Versailles Treaty, agreed to disarm after Germany had scrapped her armaments. Germany's argument today is “You defaulted on your pledge, we fulfilled ours. You have scrapped the treaty, so whyshould n't we prepare to defend ourselves?” Millions Asking Questions Millions in Europe are asking questions about the next war. They can not be answered, but the writer, on the basis of his observations of European trends during the last 17 years; makes the following replies to various questions. Q —ls a European war coming? A—lt seems inevitable eventually, barring a miracle. That is the reason why every European nation is arming on an unprecedented scale. The ruiers of the various countries are convinced war is coming. Q—How soon will it come 7 A— My guess it not sooner than five years, but probably within 10. H. G. Wells guesses 1940. Gen. Eric Ludendorff, suggested as commander of the new German military machine, says within a year. David

I Lloyd George thinks within 10 years. Edouard Benes. veteran foreign minister of Czechoslovakia, thinks that "1935 will decide the fate cf Europe.” Q —What does Germany's decision mean in a military way? A—Germany's army will be numerically the biggest in Europe, outside of Rusj sia. Within a few years, it will be i the most jwwerful in military value on the continent, because it possesses the greatest chemical organization, the finest, indfistrial organization. and the most efficient and largest commercial air force. The armaments race already started will be intensified. What little reliance the nations placed on the League's treaties and agreements for peaceful settlement of disputes will be greatly diminished by Germany's repudiation of the Versailles Treaty. The pre-war system of the division of Europe into hostile camps and military alliances will be accelerated. Q—Will Germany get away with it? A— Undoubtedly. For a while relations with its neighbors probably will not be pleasant. But when it is militarily strong Germany is likely to find friends, as did Italy and Russia and similar circumstances. v. of F. \v. to Hold Session An open meeting for overseas vet - erans and their wives will be he id by the Sergt.
