A Womans Viewpoint —BY MRS. WALTER FERGUSON
LIVING In "the sticks" has Its compensations. One does not. for example, lose social prestige when one's dog is a r.udlst. So we read without envy that the latest thing in blankets must harmonize with the animal's fur, that his haircut should suit his type. and his per- : fume blend with his personality. These are actually questions of r.o moment at the crossroads. Not that the inhabitants are concerned only with great issues, but when you watch the topsoil of Nebraska. lowa. Oklahoma and Texas making off toward the seacoest. until even the sun has a pale, worried lock, the diversion Is sufficient to t ike mind from canine haberdashery. However, it is pleasant to know what goes on in metropolitan cenre now, so they say, flourish re mutants which cater only to the noble, t of animals, where tastefully deco*.*ted luncheon plates are prepared and delivered to homes in which Fido. Rover and Skip romp together in carefree glee, their calories counted, their meals properly balanced and regularly served. You may havo missed last-min-u*o reports, which include this item, "The very last word in fur blankets is made of long-haired white goat, snapp.ly decorated with red buttons, or for the more conservative there are gorgeous cutties, with matched colored linings, which are now very chic on Park-av.” At precisely this moment, the house door opens, and in lopes the Ferguson family hound, panting, drooling, shamefully plebeian in appearance. I can think of no possible perfume to match his particular personality. There is a cocklebur in his tail, while some-

thing tells me he has been off on another fight with a small black and white animal of dubious olfactory reputation. The poor old thing has never owned a blanket nor enjoyed a balanced diet. As the snarling lion looked down upon her, Rhonda became dizzy and almost swooned. She prayed that she would lose consciousness and thus be spared the torment of her Inevitable fate. Slowly the great beast lowered his head, and Rhonda Terry gazed into the jaws of death!

While Rhonda helplessly awaited her fate, Naomi Madison’s terrified pony was carrying her swiftly along the backtrail to the Arab camp from which they had escaped. Impelled by fright, the horse plunged readily into the river which he had crossed reluctantly only a few hours before.
—By Ahern
Soon the stampeding animal came upon the drove of Arab ponies which Rhonda had released to prevent pursuit by the swarthy sons of the desert. These nervous creatures drew terror from the pounding hoofs of Naomi’s mount. They wheeled and galloped toward the camp, while the girl’s pony followed.

Presently the trail widened into a clearing. The horses in front of her stopped. The one she rode ran in among them and stopped too. Then she saw the reason—Sheik Ab el-Ghrennem and his evil followers. In a moment she was surrounded —once more a prisoner of this ruthless band!
