BOARD NAMED TO MAP STATE TAX REVISIONS Five Democratic Senators, Five Representatives Selected. The task of mapping rnlsions in the state tax laws to be made at the special season r the Indiana Legislature next summer was placed m the hands of a special-legislative commit’** today. The committee, composed of five members from each H'.use. was authorized in a Joint resolution adopted by the Assembly on its closing day this week. Membership of the commifee was complr’ed today when Lieut. Gov. M. Clifford Townsend named five Senators, all Democrats. They are Thurman A Gott-chalk, Berne; Walter S. Vermillion. Anderson; Fiord V. Hemmer. Huntingburg; Charles Koslcm, Terre Haute, and Hubert Wickens. Greensburg. The House members, named by Speaker Edward H. Stein. Blownfield. are Frank G. Thompson, Bluffton: Fred Barrett. Indianapolis; Hardin R Link*. Columbus, and Lloyd Griffith. Huntington, all Democrats and Joseph A. Andrew, Lafayette. Republican. The joint committee will draft bills revising the gross income tax and study a proposed consumers’ sales tax. Receipts from the latter tax. passage of which depends on congressional action on an old-age pension plan, would be used to finance the state social security program. Mr. Townsend also appointed a Senate committee to study traffic needs with a view of anew plan of distribution of the c.isoline and motor vehicle tax receipts. Members of the committee are Senators Fred Eichorn, Gary, and Walter S. Chambers. Newcastle, Democrats, and Will Brown, Hebron. Republican. ROTARY HEARS TALK ON MEXICAN REFORM Evansville College Chief Tells of Recent Visit. Mexico was described as a land j in the throes of a great social change by Dr. Earl E Harper. Evansville College president, at the Rotary Club meeting in the Claypool yesterday. Dr Harper, who recently returned from a two-months motor trip through Mexico, discussed the country and its customs for the benefit of the club members who will go to Mexico City for the convention of , Rotary International in June.
