Corey, United Christian Missionary Society president; Dr. John G. Benson. Methodist Hospital superintendent, and Ernest N. Evans, executive secretary of Indianapolis Church Federation. have been appointed members of the 1935 National Committee for Religion and Welfare Recovery. The committee which is headed by Walter W. Head. New York City, includes 55 bishops. 45 pastors, priests and rabbis and 143 national officers of church and benevolent organizations. William H. Ball, Muncie. Ind . is a member. In its "Call. Program and Calendar,” a 48-page booklet issued today. the committee calls for "a mobilization of the religious and char-acter-building forces of the nation . . . emphasizing the paramount importance of spiritual and moral ideals in an/ permanent national recovery.” Headed by a series o: short articles by prominent •cclisiastical and lay officials including Pope Pius XI and Franklin D. Roosevelt, the booklet decries the decrease of church benevolences since the World War and the urgent need of “sacrificial giving . . . from capital, to meet the increased obligations of church and related agencies.” HEARST ‘LIKELY TO SUPPORT ROOSEVELT’ Newspaper ' ham Owner Sees Some Chance for G. O. P. B't Vmitrd Pn *• LOS ANGELES. March 11.—Responding to questions asked by the United Press. William Randolph Hearst. in a statement wired from San Simeon. Cal., today, commented on the presidential possibilities of 19.36, said that he might support any one of a number of candidates, but “will probabiy support Mr. Roosevelt.” Mr. Hearst also gave the opinion that "there is a possibility of the Democratic party going so far in the direction of destructive radicalism that a Republican moderationist will have an excellent chance of election.”
