CENTURY BAKED GOODS CHOSEN FOR_ DUALITY 150 Stores in Co-operative Merchandising Project Make Selection. One of the old and established manufacturers of quality products in Indianapolis is - the Century Biscuit Cos., which was organized 3-1 years ago in 1902 and began baking quality products in a building at the southwest comer of Meridian and South-sts. One of the founders of the organization was Mr. H. T. Brown, the present president of the company, who came from Lebanon, Ind., and shortly after the formation of the organization was joined by his two sons, W. C. Brown, who is at present secretary, and A. R. Brown, who is treasurer and director of sales. The products of the bakery were distributed all over central Indiana and, in November, 1913, a disastrous fire destroyed the plant. This lead to the construction of anew fireproof sanitary baking plant at the present location, New York and Blackford-sts, and the opening of this modern plant, one of the finest bakeries in the country, was followed by extending the sales territory into eastern Illinois and Kentucky. Several years ago the company introduced a line of quality bakery products known as the American brand, consisting of butter, soda and graham crackers and cheese, vanilla and, saltine wafers. The production department of the bakery is in charge of D. A. Clark, vice president and manager. The steady growth of the institution has resulted in widely developed markets, and during the last year bakery specialties were shipped from the big Indianapolis bakery into half the states of the union. The Century Biscuit Cos. is a strictly home-owned Indianapolis concern. All the materials used are purchased in Indianapolis and Indiana as far as possible. Normally about 200 people are employed and 23 salesmen are engaged in distributing Century products. The constant development of the products along quality lines has lead to the adoption of the slogan, "The World's Best,” which appears on all the products distributed from this plant.
