‘KING OF KINGS' SEEKS TO CALM DUCE'SFEELINGS Abyssinia Has No Design On Italian Territory, Says Haile Selassie. By rig<f Prrs ROME. Feb. 28— Abyssinia has no design on Italian territorial rights in Africa. E'.iperor Haile Selassie declared in a letter received today by the king and Premier Benito Mussolini. *We will never molest nor ever have thought or will think o! molesting the Italian colonies of Eritrea and Somaliland," the emperor wrc*e. The letter expressed a desire to have Italy near Abyssinia so it could ’help us" Ohevre Jesus. Abyssinian charge d'affaires, said the letter was extremely conciliatory in tone and contained expressions of hope that the situation could be settled peacefully. Identic copies of the letter were sent to the king and Mussolini. It contained three short paragraphs. Jesus announced that Italy had demanded reparations of 200 000 thalers <$68,000) for the Ualual border incident in which native Italian troops were slain. “Italy insists that we attacked them,” Jesus said. “We maintain they attacked us. It is clearly a misunderstanding and Abyssinia ardently wishes it to be solved peacefully and as quickly as possible."
