A Woman s Viewpoint BV MRS. WALTER FERGUSON
THERE arc two distinct types of women In the United States today, the home woman and the business woman, and the latter is by far the more intelligent and progressive, simply because her oppor* unities for self-development are more numeaous. To be frank. I am pessimistic about the po: :bllitv of any real social reforms coming from the American home. Here Is my reason: The majority of home women are carbon copies of their husbands. Parrot-like, they echo the opinions and beliefs of th ;r men, which would b a good tiling if all husbands were gentlemen of intelligence and wide social vision. But when the opposite is true, you can pec v hat th" effect would be. For ‘Charles says" and "John think ' and “William believes" preface most wifely remark . Rather pathetic is the position of the home woman, occupied with house and children. She d.slikes to di'azree with her husband in any important particular, beeaus in her heart she feels this to be a kind of disloyalty. She is. in fact, the victim of that peculiar form of educa’ion which sets up the theory that a good wife never cstUacs but always praises her husbaAd. that love is a g’orified form of flattery— and which at woman's influence is greater than that of man's. So deeply has this inconsistent idea taken root within her it is almost impossible to destroy. For the home woman actually believes that wifely admiration constitutes a spiritual coat of mail for the busi-

Hf Vnitfd Prunn SAX FRANCISCO. Feb. 19.—The weather definitely was eliminated as a cause of the dirigible Macon disaster in testimony yesterday before a naval court of inquiry. Lieut. A. L. Davis, aerologist on the Macon, said the weather had nothing to do with the break-up of the dirigible of! Point Sur last Tuesday night. His personal opinion was that a structural failure "might have caused it.”

Soon after it was discovered that Naomi Madison and Rhonda Terry had been kidnaped by the wily Arabs, Tom Orman began silently to make a small pack of food, blankets and ammunition. Bill West watched him for a time, then he. too, began to collect the essentials of a long jungle journey.

‘‘What do you think you’re doing?” Orman asked. ‘‘l’m going with you,” West replied. Orman shook his head. "Nothing doing. This is my funeral.” Without replying, West continued his preparations. Then every man in the company volunteered for the perilous quest of the missing girls.

‘‘l’m going alone,” Orman announced. “One man on foot can travel faster than the Arabs on horseback. They’ll have to cut trail.” "But what can one man do after he catches them?” O'Grady demanded—"he’ll get himself killed.” ‘‘l won’t fight,” Orman returned. “I’ll just try to use my head.”

“Those Arabs will do anything for money,” Orman continued. "I’ll offer more for the girls than they can get elsewhere.” "Elsewhere?” Bill West inquired. Orman nodded his head grimly. “Yes. There’s still a safe market for girls in Africa. That’s what I’m afraid of, if I don’t reach them in time!”
