PINOCHLE TEST FINDS RESPONSE IN BRIDGE FANS Auction, Contract Players Entering Competition in Large Numbers. Entries for the city championship pinochle tournament sponsored by The Indianapolis Times under the general direction of P. Hal Sims, Americas foremosct authority on pinochle and contract bridge, continue to pour in. The wide popularity of pinochle as an alternate game for bridge is causing bridee fans as well as pmocnle enthusiast of all ages to enter. Speaking of the present popularity of pinochle Emily Post, fashion authority and arbiter of social custom, has said: Pinochle is a fascinating game that is at present becoming very popular with the younger generation.” The city championship pinochle tournament in Indianapolis will be held at the Columbia Club, beginning Frb. 18 and continuing three weeks. P. Hal Sims has chosen Fritz Schneider as his assistant in the local tournament. Local prizes totaling SSOO are offered by The Indianapolis Times in the local tournament, in addition to winning a local first prize of S3OO, the local champion will receive a trip to New York with all expenses paid, and an opportunity to compete there for the national championship award of SIOOO. While In New York the Indianapolis champion will stay at the Waldorf-As-toria. where the national play will be held. A second and third prize of SIOO each, and 50 additional prizes of autographed copies of "Pinochle Pointers” by P. Hal Sims will be awarded for the fifty next highest scores. There is no charge to enter. The only requirement is that you sign elsewhere in this paper, to the Pinochle Tournament Manager, The Times. Cards, rules and score sheets will be furnished free.
