EUGENE LENTZ, CHURCH ELDER. HIT-RUN VICTIM City Man’s Body Hurled 50 Feet by Impact; Dies Instantly. Eugene Fredrick < Fritz) Lentz, six feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, was struck and killed last night a few steps from his home at 3801 W Mor-rls-st by a hit-and-run driver who had Just pulled away from a nearby tavern. Mr. Lentz was 66 and the 127th traffic victim in Marion County this year. So great was the impact that the

windshield of the car was broken and scattered in the road, Mr. Lentz’ clothing was tom and his body was carried for 50 feet.

John C. Leerkamp, 3101 W. Mor-rls-st, who had deposited Mr. Lentz across the street from his home, heard the crash and returned to the scene to see the death car racing west on M orris-st. Went to Church Meeting Mr. Lentz had been to a meeting at gt. Pauls Reformed Church. Tf which he was an elder, and tie accident occurred at 11:30. Mr Lintz was a prominent gardener and spent his entire life in Indianapolis. His father also was a gardener, coming here from Germany in 1850. Mr. Lentz was a member of Murat Shrine, Scottish Rite, Logan Lodge, F. and A. M.; Naomi Chapter, Order of Eastern Stars; Meridian Lodge of Odd Fellows, and was a charter member of Temple Lodge of Rebckahs since it was organized in 1900. He is survived by his wife, Nancy E., three sons, Walter F.. Carl W. and John E.; three daughters, Mrs. Viola Schuh, Mrs. Myrtle Rippy and Miss Ethel Lentz; two brothers, Albert and Robert, and a sister, Christiana, all of Indianapolis. Funeral services for Mr. Lentz, who had had a stand at the city market for the last 55 years, will be held at the home at 1 Friday and at St. Paul Reformed Church at 2. Burial will be in Crown Hill. Four Hurt in Mishap Four persons were injured early this merning when Morris Hatfield, 29, R. R. 7, Box 237, drove his Ford into the rear end of a bus in front of 4731 W. Washington-st. Mr. Hatfield, who was driving east on Washington-st, said the bus had no tail light or any other light he could see. Blythe Corne, 28, of 819 Olive-st, driver of the bus. protested that the tail light was lit. Police found it unlit when they arrived. Mr. Hatfield suffered cuts on the head. The others hurt were passengers in his car: Leland Lawson, 35, of 17 N. Wallace-av, cuts on the head; Mrs. Herbert Scott, 33. of 46 N. Chester-av, body bruises and cuts on the head; Miss Sylvia Dorn, 23. of 56 N. Chester-av, dislocated hip, body bruises, cuts on the head. Suffers Leg Fracture Gus MpGrath, 66, of 919 Shelbyst, a laborer, apparently blinded by the icy rain falling at 6:45 this morning, stepped in front of an automobile being driven northwest on Virgmia-av by Henry Zanela, 52, of 1720 E. Troy-av. Mr. McGrath suffered a fractured leg and was taken to City Hospital. Last night. Ralph Anderson, 40. of 1026 Sheffield-av, walked into the side of an auto driven by James Olvey. 27. of 2267 Wheeler-st, and was knocked down and injured. The accident occurred at Collegeav and 22d-st. Mr. Anderson was taken to City Hospital. Yesterday afternoon. James Young, 22, Trafalgar, a truck driver, was arrested on charges of drunken driving, drunkenness and failure to stop after an accident when, police say, his truck crashed into two parked cars in the 300 block, E. Henry-st. Arrested in Garage Young was found by police in a garage at 1001 S. Delaware-st. where police say, he had taken his truck for repairs. At City Hospital today. William B. Rogers. 34, Belmont Hotel; Mrs. Hetty Rogers, also 34. his wife, and Richard (Curly* St. George. 28. Annex Hotel, remained in a critical condition as a result of an accident before dawn yesterday when a taxicab in which they were riding struck a railroad track elevation abutment on Madison-av south of McCarty-st. Otis Riley. 33. of 318 N. Foster-av, driver of the cab. is in serious condition at the same hospital. YOUTHFUL SPEEDERS FAVORED BY MAYOR Will Not Be Detained in Jail While Awaiting Trial. AKRON. 0.. Dec. 19.—Mayor I. S. Myers Is planning a special traffic ticket for the ’sons and daughters of prominent people who dislike being detained two or three hours whi t awaiting bond when arrested for .peeding.” Peace use a yellow ticket for parking violations and a pink one for other minor offenses. Until Mayor Myers used an order, speeders were not given tickets, but were taken to jail Protests from their parents caused the Mayor's order, he said. Mr Myers believes a special ticket cf different color should be given speeders. The Columbia Broadcasting System and the Canadian Radio Commission network will handle the broadcast, part in French and part in English, at 8:15 Eastern Standard Time. Principal speakers will be the quintuplets themselves, if they consent to coo or cry over the radio, both of their parents and Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, W. H. Alderson, a guardian appointed by the Canadian government to prevent possible exploitation of the infants, and one of the attendants who takes care of the babies’ washing. SKELETON FOR HARVARD British Museum Presents University With Remains of Whale. i By United Press CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 19. The skeleton of a rare False Killer whale, mystery mammal of the seas, has been presented to Harvard University by the British 1 Museum. The 15-foot skeleton is from one of a herd of 126 whales washed ashore at Dornoch Firth, Scotland, seven years ago.
