Decorations and Programs at Night Clubs Show Holiday Motif Remodeled Land o’ Dance Wiil Hold Opening Tonight; Benefit Parlies Scheduled. BY JOHN W. THOMPSON The hosts of Indianapolis night clubs are busy decking the halls with boughs of holly and Garcon is still picking the pine needles out of his hair after our breezy trip through the local midnight joy places.

A couple of old cronies got togther the othsr day at the Circle Theater. Gene Wood, who conducts the Chateau Lido band, and Ted Lewis, highhat music master, who just finished an engagement here, are natives of the same town, Circleville, O. The boys went through a lot of back-slapping in Ted’s dressing room and Gene related a story about the time when he as a mere tot, hired out at 2b cents a day to carry the front end of the bass drum in the town band just in order to be near his musical idol, Mr. Lewis, who was the drum major. The 20th Cen tury Band as the organization was known was made up of musicians recruited from 'Chillicothe and Cirdeville. Gene says that it was from Ted that Be received his inspiration to

Center—Ricardeau and Enid, adagio dancers, are doing a second week engagement at the Showboat. Right—Lee Bennett is the popular soloist in Jan Garber’s orchestra, which will play a one-night stand at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, Dec. 28.

Democratic Victory Ball will be held at the Casino and Thursday night the Spades Athletic Club will stage a benefit dance. The Casino has been redecorated for these parties and special lighting effects have been put in to bring out the Christmas spirit. Mr. Bailey announces that there will be a Christmas eve dance at the Casino with a complete program of new entertainment. *r n m If you have noticed Gene Crawford, the dapper little pianist with Lew Davies Tally-Ho Room orchestra, here is the low down on him. He hails from Ashland, Ky., where he went to high school and got sidetracked into the musical profession. He started in Kentucky State University, but music called and he answered. He was only 17 when he played his first job with the Kansas City Collegians. After that he played with the Illinoians, Lucien Hakworth’s Arcadians, and Jack Azbill, with whom he toured the south and west, going down into Mexico. He revealed to me the fact that more than he desired to play music he desired to see the country. He also has a very hidden interest in astronomy—in fact, in all sorts of science. n The Showboat will bring Mort Silver to town after New Year’s and will feature him with a line of eight girls. n m Jack Berry’s orchestra will play tonight at the Knights of Columbus Hall for a dance sponsored by Omega Phi Tau, Alpha Zeta Beta, Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Sigma Tau sororities. m * Sam Koby of the Palm Garden has added new entertainment features to his program. They include Buddy Crawford, trumpet; Ruth Kelly, piano, and Fred Watson, guitar and vocal. These are known as the Harmony Trio and play both popular and old-fashioned numbers for Palm Garden patrons. a * m Manager Thompson of the Nfovie Infi announces that he has recently installed anew heating system at the night place, and, with the popular fireplace, the patrons have been - having a “hot” time on cold winter nights. Pretzel Bell Engages Trio for Holidays Accordion Player and Two Singers to Appear at Night Club. Walter Altman, Pretzel Bell manager, has engaged a trio of performers in a special holiday entertainment treat which includes Jimmy Boyer, Joey Bernard and Ruth Otte. All three have been seen and heard at the Bell before, and because of the past popularity, Mr. Altman has signed the three together to do special ensemble work and also individual solos. Mr. Boyer has been heard over both stations WKBF and WFBM as a piano and vocal specialist, and recently terminated an engagement at the Chateau Lido. He sang and played at the Pretzel Bell last summer. Miss Otte has sung over both Indianapolis radio stations and at Indianapolis social gatherings for many years. Her vocal career started when she was still a student in Technical High School, and she has been the guest soloist with the Newsboys Band for several seasons. Mr. Bernard made his debut in Indianapolis with his accordion at the Pretzel Bell more than a year ago. He established some little reputation when he was here before. The trio will entertain daily and nightly at the Pretzel Bell for an indefinite engagement. Muriel Evans Plays Polo Muriel Evans is one of the most expert feminine polo players in Hollywood. She takes daily lessons from “Snowy” Baker at the Riviera Polo grounds and has scored goals in practice games with expert players.
