CHILD EXPERT PREDICTS DROP IN BIRTH RATE Effect of Fewer Marriages, Control Will Be Visible in Schools in 1940. Bu Vmitrd Fmi HARRISBURG. Pa.. Dec. 13—In 1940 there will be 1,000.000 fewer children in American schools than at present. Dr. Ellen C. Potter predicted in an address yesterday be-; for* the Pennsylvania Emergency Child Health Committee. Dr. Potter, director, division of medicine. New Jersey Department of Institutions and Agencies, said the decrease would be attributable to a diminishing birth rate resultant from fewer marriages, delayed marriages and birth control. The first effect of the diminishing birth rate would be noticed next fall in fewer first grade registrations, she said. ,

Dec. 13—Robert Crisp holds a $5 judgment for alienation of his wife's affections as a result of a jury verdict in Shelby Circuit Court in his SIO,OOO suit against Edgar Hoop. Plaintiff is 68; his wife 59. and the defendant is 65. The husband sought to show that his wife, Mrs. Martha Crisp, had visited the defendant at his home, where it was alleged drinking parties were frequent occurrences. Defence testimony was to the effect that Mrs. Crisp had never visited the Hood home without being accompanied by Jriends. Mrs. Crisp has a divorce suit pending. Her husband has filed a crtKs complaint.
