A Woman s Viewpoint BY MRS WALTER FERGt’SON
THE He-Mans Association, recently launched, is another of those movement* to put woman in her proper place. The psychology of the He-Man is worth some study. It is so obviously that of a person who feels inferior. Underneath the swelling chests of these stern men. who are upset about elimination of the word ‘'obey" from the marriage service and about women who have shoved their way into business and the professions, there is a fearful premonition—a premonition that they may not be as wonderful as they have been told. The powerful male is shivering a little in his shoes—the He-Man’s Association is merely a symptom of the and: ea.se w hich causes the shivering. One by or.'- the garments of his greatness are being stripped from him. Before long he will stand bared of those traditions which have warmed him. When ttat day comes, the great He-Man will be no more, and woman will be a sad. disillusioned creature, weeping over her halfgods. All will not be lost, however, for "when the half-gods go, the gods arrive.” We can hope then that the HeMan will be replaced by a kind, just, humane, intelligent gentleman who need not worry about his superiority because he will be superior. He-Men are. in fact, pathetic. Inhibited with bluster, they are like cocks in a barnyard whose only way of calling attention to themselves is by crowing and fighting. Both methods have been worked to death. The He-Man type is, I think, making his farewell appearance. Mussolini, Hitler and all their lesser satellites represent the remnants

THE curious Chili pine, a ghost tree from out of the ages before man, now is to be found in many sections of the world, having been transplanted in numerous formal gardens, because of its unusual appearance. The bully is never great, and moss He-Men are bullies who, like the frog in Aesop's fable, are eventually destroyed by their own conceit. C, OF C. TARZAN AND THE CITY OF GOLD
When Erot told Dona he had come to sew her in a bag of hides, so that she might be thrown into the volcano, the girl’s first thought was not of herself, but of her father, Thudos and her lover, Gemnon. who were in prison. “What is to be their fate?” she asked anxiously of the man before her. *

Outside the window, a keen ear was listening as Erot answered: “The Queen is permitting them to live through tomorrow, that they may witness your destruction, for thus the kindly mind of Nemone.” He laughed harshly. “The hell-cat! May the devil get her in the end!”

“The Queen has lavished favors on you. How can you be so vile an ingrate?” Doria exclaimed. Erot seized her hands. “You are more beautiful than she,” he cried eagerly. “If you will but let me be your friend, perhaps I can avert the doom that awaits your father and your lover.” Doria shrank from his touch.

As the helpless Doria struggled to free herself from Erct’s strong embrace, a low growl sounded from the direction of the window. The scoundrelly Erot went ashy white as he leaped to his feet and fled through the door on the opposite side of the room, his craven heart pounding In terror.
