Senators but to keep new recruits' from joining them. At one time it appeared as if Senator William E. Borah <R., Idaho* and Senator James Couzens <R. Mich.) would put on a public J reconciliation. They met in the Senate restaurant, but just as they were on the point of adjusting their difficulties the mischievous Senator Alben W. Barkley <D„ Ky.) piped up: “Well, which of you two boys is going to re-organize the Republican party?” That restored the old tension. The Senators, after exchanging a few stiff pleasantries, ate at separate tables. Senator Borah, refusing to comment on the declaration of the Democratic state chairman of Idaho predicting his defeat in 1936. said he had had responses from 13 states backing him in his effort to displace the “reactionary” leadership of the Republican National Committee. He has been invited to deliver addresses this month to young Republicans in Philadelphia and Detroit. Advised of the invitation to his own state, Mr. Couzens said: 1 “I hope he pans me.”
