INDIANA GIRLS GET CHANCE AT JOBjNFOLLIES Ziegfeld Managers Arrange With Theater Men for Test on Roof. Several New York girls, membeis of the Ziegfeld Pollies cast do not wish to continue the tour with the company and Ziegfeld managers have opened the lists to central Indiana girLs who have the urge to become troupers and perhaps some day stars. It has been arranged with Vincent Burke, English Theater manager; Sam Stratton, advance agent for Ziegfeld, and Tom Devine. Indiana Roof Ballroom manager, to hold a contest at the Roof Friday night to determine the outstanding talent in Indianapolis, from which the Follies’ authorities may make their choice to fill the vacancies in the cast list. Judges from the Ziegfeld company. which will arrive in Indianapolis tomorrow, to open a threedav engagement at English’s Thursday will look over the contestants at the ballroom Friday night and from that number choose the ten best girls in respect to their potentialities for Follies roles. It should be borne in mind by applicants that the usual showgirl is taller than the average girl and must be able to wear costumes to good advantage. Other talents, such as singing and dancing ability, are an advantage. There are absolutely no strings attached to this contest and there will be no prizes awarded. It is merely an opportunity for Indianapolis girls to get an audition with one of the most famous musical shows in the world, and to settle the question once and for ail as to whether are capaole of making good in the movie or stage field. The ten contestants selected by the Judges Friday night will appear at a private audition with the Ziegfeld director at English’s theater Saturday morning and .there he will make the final decision as to the possibility of any of the contestants being awarded Follies contracts. It has been assured that should any of the entrants come up to the standards set by the Ziegfeld company, a contract will be awarded. And in the case that there are several satisfactory entrants. as many as six contracts may be signed. All that is necessary to enter the contest, is for the girl to come to \ the Indiana Roof ballroom Friday night between 9:45 and 10:15, and register at the entrance to the ballroom. She will be instructed there as to what regulations to follow. There are no restrictions on what the contestants may w r ear, evening g"wn s being permissable. 3,000,000 CANS OF BEEF READY FOR WINTER AID Governor’s Relief Plants to Distribute Food to Needy. The three meat packing plants operated by the Governor’s Unemployment Relief Commission have canned nearly 3.000,000 one and one-half pound cans of beef for relief purposes, Wayne Coy. commission director, announced today. This meat will be distributed during the winter to clients of the state relief organization. The commission obtained the meat from cattle purchased from farmers in the drought regions by the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation. Indiana has received 43.886 head of these cattle and 35,058 already have been butchered in the commission’s three slaughtering plants, the Indianapolis Abattoir and the Riverview’ plant here and the Routh plant at Logansport. Every head of cattle received at these plants must pass the same government inspection as cattle slaughtered for commercial consumption in privately owned plants and the canning of the meat also is supervised by Government inspectors. In November 369,000 cans were distributed to families on relief, an average of four cans to a family. BEAUTICIANS CLOSE THREE-DAY SESSION Hairdressing Methods Demonstrated by Experts.
