A Womans Viewpoint BY MBS. WALTER FERGUSON
A 8 every worm knows, it take* a certain courage to turn. Yet even thoee spineless creature* are better able to muster up that courage than the average parent who. blind and fatuous, is unable to deny or cross a child and -'o exists in a life-long state of slavery aod sorrow. No matter how many rights the modem woman may get she will never be free until she can be an individual and a parent at the some time. I have in mind the widowed mother of a girl of 10 who permits herself to be ordered about as if she were a member of a chain gang. Having lost her husband she dotes upon his child. As each day passes she stores up bitterness for herself and misery for her daughter, who already regards her mother as a being solely created to r'i her bidding. Such women live In a 'ool's paradise. For the day will su-ely come when they will be evicted from their Edens, and evicted by the very children for whom they have sae-iflced. If I were asking God lor one boon to bestow upon mothers I Should ask for self-respect. We want above all else to have our children approve and love us, but the extent of their approval and love will be measured inevitably by the appraisal we put upon ourselves as individuals. Such self-appraisal, unless carried to the extreme of egotism, always determines our importance in our children’s eyes. I have never yet seen a wholly self-sacrificing mother who did not antagonize her family by that vir-

After Phobeg had warned df the fate that hung over Tarzan and his friends, the ape-man hurried to the palace. In the anteroom of the Queen's apartments a noble on guard protested that the Queen must not be disturbed, but TarBan, impatient cl the fellows interference, pushed him aside and pounded on the door.

Nemone, however, admitted him eagerly. “I have been thinking of you,” 6he said as she sank languorously among the soft cushions of a couch. “Have you been thinking of me?” Tarsan answered: ‘‘l have been thinking perhaps you will help me. That you can help me, I know.”

“There is no favor you may not have from Nemone for the asking,” the Queen replied softly as she drew Tarzan down beside her. A single cresset shed a pale, flickering light across the room. Beyond it blazed the yellow-green eyes of Belthar, the lion—eyes ever watchful, bright with cruel expectancy.

"Ah, Thoos! How I have hungered for this moment” whispered Nemone, her soft, bare arma slipping, quickly about Tarzan’s neck as she drew him close. “Tarzan! My Tarzan!” she sobbed. Then that same fatal door at the far end of the apartment opened slowly and ever so silently.
