NEW PRODIGY HELD SMARTER THAN EINSTEIN Boy, 7, Whose Quotient Is 196, Put in Shade by Latest Find. United Prrni NEW YORK, Dec. 4—" What do you mean, a child almost as smart as Professor Albert Einstein?” the Bureau of Child Guidance in effect demanded of the Educational Clinic this afternoon. “Why, we have a child who is smarter." The bureau then announced existence of a 7' -year-old boy, who has an intelligence quotient of 230, which makes him the smartest person in all the world Professor Einstein's intelligence quotient is 205. 1 one of the highest ever recorded heretofore, and the quotient of the Educational Clinic's prodigy, who is 7, is only 196. The new prodigy is a pupil at the Brooklyn Ethical Culture School, and his teacher, Mrs. Henry Neumann. was disturbed because newspapers had made much over the clinic's prodigy. She refused to divulge his name, fearing publicity might hurt his future.
Likes Music, Mathematics The child's mind, like that of Professor Einstein, seems predisposed toward music and mathematics, she said. He has devised a numerical alphabet with which he writes with ease and has invented a system of musical notation using numbers that competent music technicians have pronounced entirely practical. The Bureau of Child Guidance is a part of the Board of Education. A few months ago. a Brooklyn second grade teacher grew weary of a little boy who knew all the answers before she expounded them, and sent him to the bureau. Dr. Morris Krugman gave him the “IQ” test and before he had finished the child had comprehended the involved method by which his test arrives (in theory) at an appraisal of Intelligence. Astonished, Dr. Krugman began propounding mathematical theorems which the child solved with ease. Parents Are Intellectuals The new prodigy, like the 7-year-old mental giant of the Educational Clinic, is of Jewish parentage, but his parents, rather than having little education, are classed as "professional intellectuals.” He did not walk until 14 months old, and did not talk until 20 months. But when he did begin talking, it was in complete sentences without trace of garbled pronunciation. His physical and social age is only a little more advanced than his chronological age and he therefore enjoys the company of other young children. He is taught in a class of other exceptionally bright children, although none approach his “IQ” rating. No effort is made to push him. He is large for his age and has a strong, sound body.
TIRED OF FUGITIVE'S LIFE, MAN SURRENDERS New York Parole Violator Gives Self Up to City Cop. Leo Majors. Baltimore, was in city prison today because, police said, he grew “tired of jumping the law.” Police, awaiting word from New York state officials as to his disposition, say that he walked up to Patrolman Frederick J. Craig last night while the patrolman was on duty at Washington-st and Sen-ate-av, surrendering to him with the explanation that he was a parole violator from the state prison at Attica, N. Y., and that he was tired of a fugitive’s life. POLICE SIGHT CROWD. NAB LIQUOR SUSPECT 40 Gallons of Alcohol Taken As Hopeful Watch. A crowd of 20 smiling Negroes clustered about a small sedan at Blake and Hadley-sts today attracted the attention of police who investigated and discovered 40 gallons of alcohol being unloaded. Charles Drake. 32. of 820 W. Michigan-st, driver of the car, was arrested on a charge of transporting liquor without a permit, and the cheer, destined, police said, for a pre-Christmas celebration, was confiscated. The car driven by Drake was that of his brother. Oliver Drake. 1637 Hoefgen-st. who was not present. ELECTION TODAY ENDS FINANCE GROUP PARLEY Fiscal Problems of State Conference to Be Discussed Also. The November expenditures, of which nearly two-thirds were for emergency purposes, however, were slightly under total October disbursements of $758,452,671. Partly offsetting the November expenditures were receipts of $246,607,387, leaving a deficit of $392,000,533. In November, 1933, the Government spent $499,420,221 and received in income $208,861,276, leaving a deficit in that month of $290,558,995. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the Government spent $1,908,696,977 and ‘'earned” $1,136,504,402, leaving it “in the red” in that period $772,465,575. Another sweeping rise in Government gold holdings was reported in November, with the rise in gold stocks approaching the $100,000,000 mark as the result of heavy foreign importations. At the end of November the Govarnment's gold stocks stood at anew high value of $8,131,821,968, a gain of $1,113,558,042 over Fej3. 1. 1934, when the dollar was devalued.
