I assoc iation had Socialistic tenden- ' cies. Mr. Briggs said he Is a large owner of unencumbered land in Miami county, is a taxpayer in that county and. with his brother, has on the farm 212 head of Hereford steers and an equal number of hogs. He would not be willing, he said, to turn over these or other holdings to a Socialistic state, and ‘ proudly affiliate myself with a major political party.** The Indiana Farm Bureau Cooperative Association, he said, is not a Socialistic institution. It Is co-operative, capitalistic, with a capital stock structure and is Incorporated under the Indiana cooperative marketing law, and conforms to all provisions of the federal Capper-Volstead act. He said he holds preferred stock of the corporation. Membership in the corporation, he said, is limited to producers of
agricultural products or associations of producers of agricultural products. It pays out of earnings a fixed rate of 6 per cent on preferred stock and interest on common stock not exceeding 6 per cent. Tha remainder goes to the purchaser in proportion to his patronage. Mr. Briggs said this capital structure and method of operating is Pss Socialists than many governmental projects, to which he is favorable, that today are carried on under “the banner of the political party of some of the accusing senators.” FRIENDS GIVE GOLD BADGE TO OTTO RAY Diamond-Studded Insignia Presented to Sheriff-Elect. SCIENCE CHURCH LECTURER GIVES TALK AT CADLE ■ - - —■ Paul Harsch, Toledo, Speaks Under Auspices of Local Christian Scientists. Paul A. Harsch, C. S. B. t Toledo, member of the board of lectureship jof the Mother church, the First Church of Christ, Sc.entist, Boston. Mass., delivered a lecture last night in Cadle Tabernacle under the auspices of the Fourth Church of Christ. Scientist. He was introduced by C. Wilbur Foster. The title of the lecture was “Christian Science: The Eternal. Ever Present Christ Revealed.” He said in part: “So long as the human sense of time shall endure, so long will the eternal Christ appear and reappear to, human consciousness. By reason of His eternal and unchanging nature, God. good, must ever thus manifest Himself to men. “This is the expression of divine law. When, in ancient Palestine, healing came to the woman with the ‘spirit of infirmity,’ who for eighteen years had been ‘bowed together,’ she ‘glorified God,’ for her Messiah, her Saviour, had appeared, the presence of the eternal Christ was realized. % “This healing was divinely natural for, as Christian Science declares, ‘the time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time’ (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 55), and all who understand, even slightly that the healing Christ is an ever-present reality may deliver themselves and others from sin, sickness and limitation. “That which is divine must always belong to and come from God. It must possess the qualities 'of omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. A divine idea, then, must always have existed, and be infinite in its expression, even as that from which it sprang. “Therefore, the Christ, God’s idea, was and is ever present, and to

apeak of that Christ as advancing 1 is, in a literal sense, perhaps incor- | rect; vet figuratively, no word more correctly describes the operation of the Christ-understanding in i human experience. “The manner in which God manifests Himself to ever-increasing numbers of men, through those individuals whose prayer for an “understanding heart.’ sincere and genuine, already has brought to them some measure of the revealing Christ, may be illustrated thus: "A traveler conducted to a simply furnished hotel room, which is to be home for a few days, quickly establishes for himself what, for lack of a better word, W£ call ‘atmosphere.’ From his personal equipment he produces a book, a picture, perhaps replaces a chair and in a moment completely changes the character of his environment. “A caller entering the room, ev*'n though he be a stranger, at once feels something of the mental qualities of the occupant. Almost immediately he gets at least a partial picture of the inner self, the mental self of the one occupying that room.” •TRUE DEMOCRACY.’ SAYS DR. OXNAM OF U. S. De Pauw President Speaks Before Meridian Methodists. The government of the United States, which he described as a true democracy, was compared with governments of other world powers by Dr. G. Bromley Oxnam, De Pauw university president, last night in an address at the Meridian Street Methodist Episcopal church under the auspices of the Cabinet of Meridian Men. James M. Ogden was toastmaster and the Rev. Abram S. Woodward, church pastor, greeted De Pauw alumni and visiting clergymen who attended the meeting.
