PHOTOS REVEAL ATLANTIC COAST METEOR DELUGE Life Obliterated by Shower Centuries Ago. Says Professor. NORMAN, Okla , Oct 19—Every living organism in an area 40.000 square mile., along the Southern Atlantic coa't region wa< obliterated taring deluge of flaming meteorites. This theory, advanced by Dr. Frank Melton, associate professor of geology at the University of Oklahoma, was discus r 'd in scienDr Melton drnli vert aerial photographs taken during three Virginia to substantiate his theory. ElliDtical in a '•imil'ir southeastern ri’rertii n are in evidence along the eor** line. The largest single scar is seven miles long and five miles wide, and can not b* distinguished except I'nefTected by Erosion The completeness of the devastation that could wipe out every living thins? was shown in the aerial photographs. Countless million' of tons of meteoric rock fell, Dr. Melton said The pictures showed hundreds of these elliptical scars side by side, covering an area 400 miles along the coast line and 100 miles inland. Geological calculations indicated that the scars wre formed 30.000 to 50.000 years ago and were of such dimensions that erosion has not succeeded in obliterating them.

First Revealed in 1805 The meteorites, thrown off by some celestial body, were traveling at a rate of twenty-five miles a second wffien they struck the earth and were in such a molten state that in many instances they turned to gas before they cooled, the scientist believes. The presence of these unusual topographical features first was made known to science in 1895. But it was not until 1932 that, Mr. Meltons study was complete enough to allow him to advance his theory. During the last two years he has continued his studies in this area. FT. WAYNE TEACHER IS ELECTED PRESIDENT Northeastern Group Overrides Committee in Balloting. By t mil' il l‘n FT. WAYNE, Ind..
