MINTON TO GET LABOR'S VOTES, PARTULAIMS Senator Has Done ‘About Face,’ Democratic Official Charges. Indiana labor’s antipathy to the candidacy of Senator Arthur R Robinson, Republican, was voiced today bv Robert E Mythen, director of the Democratic labor bureau, in commenting on Senator Robinson's purported indorsement by the twenty-one railroad brotherhoods. Mr. Mythen pointed out that Senator Robinson's indorsement by the railroad organizations was only for the Republican nomination prior to the state covention in June. Consequently, the indorsement for nomination had little real significance, because Senator Robinson was unopposed in the convention. Mr. Mythen also pointed to the high praise by the brotherhoods of Sherman Minton, Democratic nominee for senator, in which it was said: Scores Li’l Arthur “While Mr. Minton has no public record beyond that of public counsellor for the public service commission, in which he made a good record and was regarded as being a liberal and a progressive, he is highly esteemed by such of our representatives in the field as have expressed an opinion.” “In effect,” Mr. Mythen asserted, “the high praise of Mr. Minton by the national legislative representatives of the railroad brotherhoods on information from their field men, is an indorsement of Mr. Minton.” Senator Robinson has “done an about face" on labor, Mr Mythen charged. Campaign Attitude Changed “While he made a good voting record in behalf of labor,” Mr. Mythen asserted, "his campaign attitude has changed on his own record, and he now is opposing the recovery program he supported w’hen voting in the senate. “This has caused many of the senator's labor friends to brand the senator with inconsistency and lack of sincerity in voting as he did, and has brought a feeling that his votes were for political expediency in his own behalf. “This attitude on the part of Senator Robinson means the loss of the labor vote in Indiana, which will go to Sherman Minton, who has pledged himself to support President Roosevelt.” TECH DEMEGORIANS TO PRESENT PROGRAM 'Voices’ to Be Subject of Speakers at Church Sunday. “Voices” is the subject to be pre- j sented at the Broadway Baptist j church Sunday, by the Tech Deme- | gorians, under the direction of Charles R. PRESIDENT PUTS FAITH IN TRADE TO BOOM PRICES Crop Control Also Figures Largely in Revised Recovery Plan. By I'nitcd Press WASHINGTON. Oct. 11. —lncreased government pressure for crop control and foreign trade appeared today fundamental in President Roosevelt's plan to boost commodity prices higher and peg them. Credit expansion to utilize some of the power of idle American money appears, also, to be a part of the program. The American Bankers’ Association convention here the latter part of this month will offer the administration its chance to outline the next development in price recovery. Mr. Roosevelt is scheduled to make the principal convention speech, supported by Chairman Jesse Jones of RFC and Leo T. Crowley, chairman of the FDIC. The men coming here will represent about three-quarters of the banks in the United States. There have been indications recently of improved relations between banks and the administration. The financiers gave useful assistance in the recent conversion of Liberty bonds. A year ago the RFC head was blasting the banks with criticism for refusing to make loans when their vaults bulged with cash. He says now that there is some “timidity” among the bankers but that there is a general disposition to cooperate. This change in the Jones attitude became noticeable some months ago when dispatches from Houston revealed that his own bank had decreased its loans and increased its cash in the latter part of 1933. Mr. Roosevelt apparently does not believe dollar manipulation will bulk largely in further price increases and stabilization. He seems to have been converted to the theory of Henry A. Wallace, secretary of agriculture, that the Roosevelt monetary policy has been mere “temporary money fagic.” Mr. Wallace contends that dollar devaluation was necessary and desirable, but that the benefits it rendered by increasing the export of American surplus goods can be only temporary. Even if Mr. Roosevelt still were
