■ The Theatrical World Max Reinhardt Enters Movies; Joins Warners BY WALTER D. HICKMAN
THE biggest n**rs in the movie Industry today is that Max Reinhardt mho gave the legitimate •tag* -The Miracle," has entered •ones A telegram from Charles Einfeld of Warner Brothers in New York Informs me that the great European director has been signed by Warner Brothers to produce movies. Mr. Reinhardt s first picture will be Shakespeare's “Midsummer Night s Dream ’ and production will start at the west coast studios about Nov. 15. Mr Reinhardt is nnder contract to follow his first picture with several others. By one stroke, the sign-

ing of the contract. Warner Brothers definitely has united the legitimate stage with the movie screen. For years I have maintained that Reinhardt s genius was needed In Hollywood because the Industry has progressed to that point where Reinhardt's genius could be used on the screen in the same glorious way that it was on the legitimate stage. m b m MR REINHARDT is equipped by training, education and experience to bring Shakespeare, Ibsen and all the other masters to the talking screen. His casts for Shakespeare can come from both the and the movies because experienced players of the classics now’ are in the movies now each day and other noted actors of this type are entering films. With Mr. Reinhardt's name on a movie, the production will carry so much importance that the picture will become international in scope the moment it is released. Personally, I am pleased that Reinhardt's first picture will be Shakespeare because the director is a recognized authority on the bard's works. The coming of Reinhardt to movies will mean anew art form' to the screen. m n n TODAY is an important day in movieland here, as some important movies open engagements. The Indiana today gets under way with DeMille’s “Cleopatra.’* Constance Bennett opens at the
Palace in what many predict will be her greatest role, that of Iris March In "Outcast Lady.** The Apollo opens with Will Rogers In “Judge Priest,” and everything looks just right at this house. The Circle today presents Miriam Hopkins and Joel McCrea in “The Richest Girl in the World.”
