TAX BOARD TO ACT TODAY ON RATESFOR ’35 Public Hearings Resumed: Formal Action Is Due Tomorrow. The county tax adjustment board thus afternoon resumed public hearing after being in closed session this morning. Frank Quinn board chairman, de dared he expoc** the final tax rates to be determined by the adjustment board before adjournment this afternoon. Harry’ Miesae. Indiana Taxpayers' Association secretary, has indicated he will appeal the Indianapolis civil city, school city and Marion county budgets to the state tax board unless provision for a 4 per cent tax delinquency is eliminated and unless greater use is made of prospective working balances. Several members of the board have committed themselves to the retention of large working balances as urged by Mayor Reginald H Sullivan and representatives of the school board. Formal determination of tax rates will not be made until tomorrow or Thursday. Attorneys for the taxing units will prepare formal resolutions certifying to emergencies requiring rural tax rates in excess of $1 and urban rates exceeding $1.60. Reduction of the S2OO 000 appropriation for old-age pensions in Manon county appeared to be unlikely as the adjustment board prepared for adjournment. The appropriation has been attacked by Virgil Sheppard, chamber of commerce research director, on the ground administrative methods are not satisfactory’.
