Sl.lß CITY TAX RATE FOR 1935 STILIOPPOSED Miesse to File Appeal: Asks Further Cut Following Council Action. Although adopted by city council, the 1935 Indianapolis civil city tax rate, set at 11.18. remained uncertain today. Harry Miesse. secretary of the Indiana taxpayers’ association, mill appeal last nglht's council action to the Marlon county board of tax adjustment. Objection will be made that the anticipated rate of tax delinquency I and anticipated balances are not correct. Following a caucus Monday morning at which five of the nine j council members agreed to adopt the i budget as prepared by Mayor Reginald H. Sullivan and Evans Woollen Jr., city controller, the j levy was made t a brief session last night. The budget makers rejected the recommendation of William H. , Boon, executive vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce, that the rate be reduced an additional 4 cents by cutting JIOO 000 from the park department working balances. No action was taken on Mr. Melsse's recommendation that 9 cents more be eut by anticipating no tax delinquencies and estimating larger balances in 1934. The budget, as adopted by council. provides appropriations of $6,870.538. This is $504,000 less than the 1934 budget. A total of $5,722,844 03 is to be raised by taxation. Adidtional receipts from state excise taxes and balancps anticipated for 1934. together with estimated tax delinquencies of 4 per cent, as compared with 7 per cent in 1934. account for the difference in the amount to be raised. There was no protest to the adoption of the budget at the formal public hearing. The budget ordinance calls for a tax levy of sl.lß on each SIOO of taxable property.
