Admiral Byrd's health is already mending Dr Poulter reported Hi.s appetite is returning and on Tuesday he took a short walk on the surface. He was helped to the roof door of hi- snow buried hut and accompanied on the walk by three rescuers. He walked slowly and unsteadily. The temperature was 61 degrees below zero. Dr. Poulter reported that he was uncertain when lie would start bark. Admiral Byrd's condition made it imprudent, hr said, to expose him to the risks of a tractor journey to the base. For the present. Admiral Byrd and the three rescuers are sharing the hut which is small even for one man. Dr Poulter, E. J. Demas and A. H Waite Jr., his companions, are sleeping on the floor m thnr hags while Admiral Byrd occupies his bunk.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella May, 61. of 66 North Tremont street, who died yesterday at Methodist hospital, will he in the home at 2 tomorrow. Burial will be in Crown Hill Mrs. May was a member of the * West Park Christian church. Surviving her are a dauqhter. Mrs. J. * M Lawson; two sons, Marion May and George May; a foster son, and two brothers. June A Glover and Ode Glover, all of Indianapolis.
