July 26 Employment of 443 Purdue university students during the coming term will be possible under the federal emergency relief administration, it is announced bv Edward C. Elliott, university president. Seventy-five of those emploved may be women. Students will be permitted to work a maximum of thirty hours weekly at not to exceed 30 cents an hour. Preference in employment will be given students requiring only a short period of study to obtain degrees, and freshmen. M. L. Pisher. Purdue dean of men. believes the employment program will result in return of many former students to classes.

Karl Volland has issued an appeal to citizens to avoid wasting water. Reduction in rates of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company in the Indianapolis area is sought in a petition on file today with the public service commission. The petition, alleging that present rates are excessive in comparison with the actual fair valuation of the company's property, was filed by Leo K. Fesler. former Marion county auditor, and approximately thirty other persons.
