He was given the title of 'special adviser to the President on foreign trade.” He has been working early and late, saying little. The truth is that George Peek r becoming one of the most important of the New Dealers, charged aln. .r.gle-handedly with reviving America's foreign trade by methods which will make headlines when they are announced. Here's a hint, in Mr Peek's own words concerning them: “I am convinced that a change is neces-arv in connection with our foreign trade activities.” Tariff May Be Lowered Another hint come s Irom Henry A Wallace, secretary of agriculture, who, praising Mr. Peek's work in a recent speech, said in the same breath that the nations farmers must make up their minds to accept lower tariffs. The Peek theory is that the United States can sell little to other countries until it lowers its own tariff walls. The old Democratic maxim of free trade thus may be put into practice soon—with a vengeance. If it is, Mr. Peek will be the man principally responsible. Whatever is done will be done after careful consideration of the recommendations of George N. Negro housewife, Indianapolis, for state treasurer; Allen Puckett. Indianapolis carpenter. for auditor of state, and Herbert Nuss. Terre Haute, repairman, superintendent of public instruction.
