ADE IS ABSENT ON INDIANA DAY AT WORLD FAIR Illness Keeps Humorist at Home: Governor Is Welcomed. BY RUBY B MURPHY Timn *pMiil Writer CHICAGO. July 19—Georgp Ad# 1 , f noted Indiana humorist, was un* Able to attend his state's special day at A Century of Progress exposition today because of illness, according to a wire sent from his home, Brock, Ind., to ralr officials. He was a speaker last year on Indiana day. It was hoped that John T If - Cutcheon, dean or American newspaper cartoonists, would be present to give an address. Hoosiers who are unable to attend the Indiana day ceremonies may hear the evening program when it fc broadcast tonight from the court of the Hall of States over a nationwide hookup over the Columbia broadcasting chain from 7:30 until 8 p. m. ‘lndianapolis time*. Governor Paul V. McNutt will give the principal address of the evening and Rufus C. Dawes, president of the exposition, will give the address of welcome. Brief talks will be made by the mayors of Gary, South Bend and Michigan City—R. O. Johnson William Hinkle and Harry B. Tuthill. Arrange Musical Program The program also will include a song by Joel Lay and selections bv the Anon male chorus, the Mundv jubilee singers and the Emerson high school band. Gary. Earlier m the day, from 4 15 to 4:43 p. m. 'lndianapolis timet, the C. B. S. will broadcast a salute to Indiana, a medley of Hoosier songs, including the Notre Dame “Victory March,” “On the Banks of the Wabash," “Indiana. Land of Love,” and ‘Back Home Again in Indiana." The Governor and his party arrived at the World's fair on a private yacht which docked at Twen-ty-third street and were taken by motor to the court of honor, where he received the nineteen-gun gubernatorial salute and a military reception. Guests at Luncheon Century of Progress officials were to give a luncheon in the directors’ room in the administration building to the Governor and his party and prominent Indiana statesmen and favorite sons. Covers were laid for the eminent Hoosiers and for Mr. and Mrs. Rufus C. Dawes, United States commissioner; Edward F. Dunne and his daughter, Mrs. Arthur T. Leonard; Governor Henry Horner, Mayor Edward Joseph Kelly, and Mrs. Kelly. Members of tne Governor's party who were scheduled to accompany him from Indianapolis were Mrs. McNutt and daughter Louise. Thomas Taggart. Miss Lucy Taggart and Dr. Carleton E McCulloch. $585,000 DUE STATE FARMERS FROM AAA Wheat Growers to Share Sum for Curtailing Crops. By 1 imt's Special WASHINGTON, July 19—Indiana wheat farmers have more than $500,000 in agricultural adjustment administration checks coming as the second installment on their acreage curtailment contracts. There are 24.144 contracts in Indiana and the first payment amounted to 51.289,057. The second installment, payments of which are now under way, will be $585,000. making the total $1,874,057.

President Roosevelt has disposed of half a trunkful of important reports and documents on public matters aboard his floating white house, the cruiser Houston. He maintained silence regarding the San Francisco strike, but is in constant touch with strike and other developments by wireless. Each day, the President spends much time considering and working on administration problems. He is solving long range programs of social and economic character, planning what he intends to present to the next congress for legislative enactment, and surveying the results of his trips of inspection to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Canal Zone.
